TIIE MORNING OREGONIAX, SATURDAY. 31 AT IS. 1918. WORLD TO BE SAFE League to Enforce Peace Adopts Platform. PLEDGE IS REAFFIRMED Duty ol All Free Nations Declared to Be to Fight On With Determi nation Cntil Germany Is Overcome. PHILADELPHIA, May 17. Assem bled In a win the -war" convention, the League to Enforce Peace today adopted a platform in which it declared that -until Germany is overcome the Para mount and pressing duty of the tinted States and the other free nations with which this country is allied is to fight with unconquerable determination for a victorious peace." The league reaffirmed its pledge to make the world safe by the defeat of Germany and German militarism, and to keep the world safe by a league of rations. -Unstinted support" of the President and all others in authority "in all meas ures for victory over the military power of the Kaiser" was also pledged. Inconclusive Peace Repudiated. Continuing, the platform says: "Apprehensive of the lure of an in conclusive peace which - would enable the present masters of Germany to con tinue their dominance of Central Eu rope and sooner or later to menace again the peace and freedom of the world, the league feels that our people should be forewarned. In case Germany should propose to make peace on terms that might well deceive the unsuspect ing. "Suppose she should offer to retire from Belgium and France, to cede Tren tino to Jtaly; even to relinquish all claim to her captured colonies and to promise some kind of autonomy to the various races of. Central and Eastern Europe. "Such an offer would be highly se ductive, and if we are not prepared to understand what it means, might well beguile the allies into a peace 'which would be delusive: because, unless the principal of militarism is destroyed, the promises would be kept no better than those broken in the past. Grave Possibilities Pointed Ont. "Autonomy of other races would mean their organization for the strengthen ing of Germany until she had control of the resources of a population of 200,000,000 for her next war; and the abandonment of her former colonies would be made only with the hope of recoupment in South America on a more favorable occasion. "Such a settlement would be a mere truce pending, a strife more fierce here after. So long as the predatory mili tarism is not wholly destroyed no last ing peace can be made." United States Senator John Sharp "Williams of Mississippi, speaking to night, suggested 450,000 men as a safe limit for national armies after the United States and its allies shall have removed the danger of German mili tarism by decisively winning the war.
