'PROPHET' FOSTER IN TOWN
Veteran Prospector Would Xilke Job
Salted to His Tears.
Minor A. Foster, veteran prospector
of Southern Oregon, who halls from
Gold Hill, is in Portland for a few
days looking for any industry, war or
otherwise, that has an opening for a
Civil War soldier who is not as spry
as he used to be. At present Mr. Foster
is registered at the Cadillac Hotel,
Third and Jefferson Btreets.
Down Gold Hill way, where he has
wrestled with a diminutive claim on
Kanes Creek for many years, he is
known as "Prophet" Foster, and is
held to be a weather prognostlcator of
more than usual ability.
I am equal o any Job suited to one
of my age," asserted Mr. Foster yes
terday. Years ago I used to be
first-rate engineer and machinist and,
say, I haven't forgotten any of It. May
be running an elaj-ator would come
easy to me. But I'm not particular
about the Job, Just so's it will grub
stake me."
