Foster died at the family home at Kvergrreen station, near Oregon City, Thursday at 13 o'clock, after an illness of about a year. Mr. Foster was a native of New York, and was 64 years of age. Only one of the 44 men examined by the Cowlitz County local board yester day was found physically unfit. Ona was acoepted for limited service, and all the othera were pronounced fit for active service. One young man, Oscar Mustonen, Is showing considerable perseverance in his efforts to escape Uncle Bam s draft. When examined recently his father ac companied him to Kalama and declared that the young man was insane, but when a trip to the insane asylum waa suggested all evidence of mental aber ration immediately disappeared. Yes terday the young- man and bis father appeared and filed affidavits asserting that the son was an alien, as ne was born in Finland, and since coming to America neither father nor eon had taken out naturalization papers. 90 DELINQUENTS MISSING Coo9 County Draft Board Seeks Men Still Holding Questionnaires. MARSHFIELP, Or., Feb. -15. (Spe cial.) Jesse P. Beyers, member of the local examining board, states that no delinquents have been apprehended in Coos County, although the list shows 90 still unaccounted for by question naires. It is believed a large portion of the number are in servjfe, but the board has Knowieage mere, are some in the county who failed to meet require ments. The board sent all police offloers in the county lists of delinquents and asked their aid in taking them, but only one report has been made in re turn, by Chief of Police John Hall, of North Bend, who gave information use ful to the board. Child Beaters Sent to Jail. BAKER, Or., 'Feb. 15. (Special.) Oscar Bowman was today sentenced to five months in the County Jail by Judge Anderson in Circuit Court for beating his 4-year-old stepdaughter with a rubber belt. Bowman had en tered a plea of guilty. Walter East- ham, who was tried on the charge of larceny of a steer, was pronounced not guilty by the Jury, which was put but seven minutes. Attempt to Wreck Train Fails. BAKER, Or., Feb, 15. (Special.) An attempt to wreck a passenger train on the O.-W. R. & N. was made here early today, when a large tie was found on the track a short time before a pas eytiger train was due. The passenger train was preceded s. few minutes by a freight train that was running slow and the crew got off and removed the tie, which was fastened to the rails.
