16 THE 3IORXIXG- OKEGOXIA WEDNESDAY, JUNE 28, 191G. IS damaged Steamer Taken on Oregon Dry Dock. SNAG CANNOT BE FOUND Seven Frames Broken, One Cracked and Several Holes In Planking of Hull Found, but Repairs May Be Completed Today. Seven frames broken and one cracked, With several holes In the planking of her hull between the frames, sums up the apparent damages to the Yellow Stack steamer Grahomona, which reached here yesterday from Salem, where she was taken Monday nlpht after being floated from Bola Bar, where she struck a snag Saturday night and sank. The steamer was lifted on the Ore gon drydock in the afternoon, as high water interfered with the use of the ways at Supple's yard and the steamer Ruth was on the cradle at the Port land yard She reported from Salem tshortly before noon and a crowd of ehipcarpenters was picked up and ma terial required loaded, after which she proceeded to the drydock, bo immed iately on being high and dry the task if tearing away the damaged frames and planking was begun. While it is felt certain that the Orahamona struck a snag, no trace of the ofiending derelict was found. The eteamer Gray Eagle, which went to the scene immediately on the plight or the Grahamona being made known, was used from which to sound through the Kola Bar channel and good water was found over the entire area and no trace noted of an obstruction, the as sumption being that the snag floated out after the damage was done. At Salem the Eteamer Gray Eagle assisted in clearing the hold of water, three six-inch pumps being used and soft patches were applied so the Gra hamona made her way here under her own steam. United States Steamboat Inspectors Edwards and Wynn have set 9 o'clock this morning as the time for investi gating the Grahamona case. Captain Bluhm and others of the crew being summoned to testify. Repairs may be completed on the vessel before the in vestigation Is concluded and it is planned to start her on the return to Corvallla tomorrow morning. At first ii. was CBumaiea sue couiu not Lie maao ready to resume service until Saturday. HOSTS READY NEXT MONTH New Lighthouse Tender Comes to River for First Duties. RIVER HIGH AT WHITE SALMON Present Stage Equaled Only Once Since Year 1894. r WHITE SALMON. Wash, June 27. (Special.) With the exception of the season of 1913 the White Salmon-Hood River district is passing through the highest water stage of the Columbia River since 1894. The morning of June 22, this season, the river at White Sal mon was 33 feet and 6 Inches above ero. In 1913 the water was higher by 3 feet 3 Inches. In 1894 it was 10 to 15 feet higher. The fertile river bottom lands along the Columbia at White Salmon produce annually a heavy tonnage of hay. The first cutting usually takes place be fore high water comes and one or two more cuttings are made after the water has receded. No damage has occurred excepting the loss of a hay crop by one rancher. The North Bank Road has experienced some trouble at the long fills near Cooks and the Door siding between White Salmon and Lyle. HEATHER TO BE OVERHAULED Manzanita Due Back From North mid Will Have All Duty for Time. In 12 days the Albina Engine & Ma chine Works must have the lighthouse tender cleaned and painted, engine re pairs completed and minor work done that is outlined in a contract to be entered into as a result of bids opened last week. The Heather left Astoria last night for. Portland to be delivered to the contractor. The tender made a trip to Tilla mook Rock Monday under favorable nea conditions and delivered supplies there. The Manzanita, which has been on Puget Sound, is due back from there today. She will have to look after all work for the next two weeks, but there promises to be little demand for her services, as general work in the district has been taken care of up to date.
