Sessions will be held on every business day at 11:30 A. M. ALL WHEAT MARKETS ARE STEADIER Trade Is Quiet rurally and in the Interior of the State. The wheat markets were steadier at all points yesterday. Local board quotations were not materially changed. Trade was quiet here and in. the country. A San Francisco wire noted an advance In grain bag prices In that market to 14 cents. The stronger tone was due to the belief that arrivals from Calcutta would not reach the coast in time to be available for the early California harvest. Locally bags were quoted firm at 12 cents. Argentine wheat shipments this week are estimated at 2,000,000 bushels. James Caruthers says of the Canadian crop outlook; "The general opinion teems to be that ths Canadian wheat acreage w-111 be at least 15 per cent below 1015. We cannot expect anything, -like the-375,000,000 bushels raised last year. If the three Canadian provinces raise 200.000.000 bushels this season It will be all that can be expected, although weath er conditions may change the sXlgures 25, 000,000 to 50,000,000 bushels either, way. Our opinion is that the United States and Can ada will not raise over two-thirds ot what they did last year, and possibly below this. , We firmly believe that every bushel of our Manitoba wheat will be wanted in the next few month?, especially taking into consid eration Its magnificent quality; It may be years before we can get sueh another crop of fine Quality In our Canadian Northwest.' Transfer of specu lative interest from investments to special ties assumed well-defined proportions today, leading rails extending their declines, while munitions, shipping shares anTl miscellaneous stocks made variable gains, only a few of which were retained at the irregular close. Trading was moderately active, but lacked the feverish movements of the early week. Reading continued active, declining to lO-J at the opening, rallying to 105M:. fall ing back to 101 and closing at 102. an overnight loss of 1 points. It was again the largest contributor to the day'a oper ations, with air overturn of 116.000 shares. Other rails were relatively dull or heavy, closing with a fair average of quotations under final prices of the previous day. Bethlehem Steel led the "war brides'" In extent of gain, showing more than its usual activity on its advance of 17 Vt points to 459 y.. L'nited States Steel gave promise at midday of resuming its former leader ship, rising 1V4 points" to 86H on numerous Individual transactions ranging from looo to more than 50OO shares. Crucible and Lackawanna Steel were ma terially higher at their best, together with some of the minor industrials and locomo tives, which supplemented yesterday's bbst prices before the reaction of the last hour. Automobile and Can Issues iwere outstanding features during the mldsession. General Motors gaining 5 points, with 24 points for Chandler Motors, which made a new maxi mum of 105. while Continental Can rose briskly to 104V4 on its pain of ftU points. Mercantile Marlnea regained some of their recent prominence, the preferred rising A points, and United Fruit kept pace with the rise in these issues. United States In dustrial Alcohol featured Its particular class with a temporary gain of points, and such stocks as Sears-Robuck and Woolworth had their mbmeutary periods of strength and activltv. April statements of transcontinental roads were again highly favorable. Union Pacific reporting a net lncreaze of $1,448,00, with SK4.Vnni fni. Atchison. Bonds wore steady on a fairly large distribution of trading. Total sales, par value, $4,430,000. United States and Panama bonds were '.4 to Vt per cent lower on call. Drouth and excessive ly hot weather, causing rapid deterioration of crooi in Oklahoma and parts of Kan sas, brought about advances today in the wheat market here. Closing prices, al though unsctlted. were c net higher. with July at $1.104 01.101 and September at Sl.llli. Corn lost H,c to 2Tc oats finished v.e down to a shads advance, and limvlKlnnR n f f fie to 2 lie As a result of prevailing adverse condi tions, estimates on the Oklahoma wheat crop were reduced by some authorities today to as low as 15,0OK00 bushels, as against recent forecasts of 25.0OO.O470 bushels and against last year's harvest of 34i.500.000 bushels. Two Interruptions to the upward course of the wheat market took place one Just after tho opening, the other shortly be fore the close. Predictions of cooler tern peratures and possible showers, especially In Oklahoma, caused the transient early setback. Downturns near the end of the session resulted chiefly from weakness of the corn market. A sustaining Influence, however, wns liberal foreign buying, which Included 1.250.OOO bushels for the Govern ment of Greece. Sh&rp breaks In the Talus of corn lol lowed announcements that additions 2.000.000 bushels to the s-lbllc elevator capacity here were to be rna.'e forthwith Besides the weather was idtl for the growing crops. Oats held relatively firm, owing to- crop damage reports from Oklahoma and Kan sas. Bearish advices from other states failed In til rrrain to act as an offset. Provisions weakened with hogs and corn. There was a re newal of active liquidation in the market for coffee futures here today. Except for slightly heavier Brazilian receipts, there was no feature in the reports from primary markets that seemed to attract much at tention around the ring and the selling was most generally attributed to realizing by either foreign or domestic longs on the nearer approach of the new-crop -movement or a less favorable view of immediate peace preppects. The bulk of the selling came early in the day, however, and after opening at a de cline of 10 to 11 points, with September selling at $8.60 and December at $8.72, prices steadied on covering. Trading was less active on the rally -to $8.64 for Septem ber and $8.78 for December, the market clos ing at a net advance of 2 points on May and June, but generally 7 points net lower. (Spe cial.) Never in the history of the Hogue River Valley has the outlook for large crop and high, prices for the same for both apples and pears been more promising than at the present time. The late frosts of the past two weeks have done no damage whatever to either the apples or the pears and heavy thinnlnfr js now In progress and will be for some time to come. On the Eismann, Lake Shore and other or chards of -old commercial standing; at least three-fifths of the fruit will have to be thinned, while all the younger orchards are bearing heavily. Heavy losses of, fruit all over the country practically guarantee a high price for the Rogue River apples and pears and the fruitgrowers are feeling jubilant. Owing to the extreme drought of the past year and the early Spring a num ber of the younger trees here and over the county were killed from sour sap, but all the older trees are in prime condition. There will be at least a half crop of peaches with a correspondingly high price. Already overtures are being made to peach growers for their crops at good figures. It was feared at first that the heavy frosts of two weeks ago had seriously damaged the grape crop, but It is now definitely ascer tained' that the crop will be fully up to standard in quantity and. quality.
