Santa Didn't Lose Pillows, But Story Is Good Anyway. Jndire Catena Venture Iato Arletn School In New Role and "Gets Away With It" Without Mishap. H. what a skinny Santa Claus!" Maybe no little girl said this ... J - but" no doubt she would have if the two big pillows had lallen irom xne frontispiece" of Santa at the Arleta School last night. It would have made a good story, anyway. If It had happen ed like that, now wouldn't it? Judxe Gatens himself said so, and he was the "skinny" Santa Claus whose dlaphram perspired behind the heavy pillows as he tried to deal out plati tudes and Christmas gifts at the same time to the school children in the Ar leta district. In fact. Judge Gatens suggested this as a first line for a possible story in case he forgot the pillows or somebody punctured them. And its a shame to spoil a perfectly good story for no better reaaon than that it didn't hap- f'ile tried to hide it, the Judge did. but somebody saw the dark look he gave to Bailiff Fisher when the pack age which Fisher was wrapping up jingled suspiciously. 'Whatchagot, Sleighbellsr "Lh-uh (meanlns no.) Ast the 1U"Show It to him," said the Judge, without looking up from the divorce decree he was signing. There was a big red coat, trimmed with bells and white fur. There was a huge stocking cap. And, most Im portant of all. there was a mask that was to make the Judges face look fat and rosy and puffy or rather- Just the cheeks, for the rest of it was hidden behind the big white beard. . Then the Judge admitted It and sug gested a first line for the story. Too bad it didn't happen. Isn't It? DAILY MTCTI-XiROLOGICAL REPORT. PORTLAND. Dec. 15. Maximum temper ature 43 degrees; minimum.
