He said that In these letters, the East-M

had argued that a factorv in th K.t
would be close to the market and offer
the best transportation facilities
But tempting offers and literature of
Kastern commercial clubs will not
draw from the Willamette Valley its
newest enterprise, declared Mr. Loder.
The mill, costing nearly J300.000 and
devoted exclusively to the manufac
ture of flax fiber for shipment to
Kastern mills, will be built within 40
miles of Oregon City, he said. Al
though Eastern cities are active in
their campaign for factories, Mr. Loder
is ot the opinion that Oregon towns
are slow. Only Portland has com
municated with the organization in re
gard to a site for the plant.
The state law provides that before
the organization of a company can be
completed, half of the capital stock
must be contracted for. The flax com
rany has obtained contracts for the
eale of almost half of the $20,000 capi
talization and organization will soon
be completed. While Oregon towns
are siow in their efforts to secure the
new industry, scores of inquiries are
received here from those interested in
the growth of flax or the investment
of money in the enterprise. oN trouble
