Offerings of wheat to arrive Increased so
noticeably from the country that traders In
general were looking for big receipta by Mon

terfere. This fact, with reports from all
directions that the long-delayed threshing
waa again under way, led to a rush of sell

addition dispatches were at hand belittling
the damage In the Spring wheat atates
and assertions that tha crop there was
swiftly maturing ahead of the rust.
- Word that large export orders for wheat
were in the market very close to working

Corn averaged lower tn sympathy with

HOOD RIVER, Or.. Aug. 6. (Spe

probably prevented a serious forest

Wednesday, when he sighted smoke
from his lookout on Mount Hood and
gave an alarm. The fire warden noti

Blackberry pickers probably- had
started the flames, which were licking
up the logging flume of the company
and beginning to spread in the slash

other hour a bad fire undoubtedly
would have been raging. Before the
fire could be extinguished about 300

be tested in the Circuit Court Monday
when a demurrer in the case of the

of residents of the Jennings Lodge dis

Union High School for Gladstone.
