Interest in registration showed little
letup yesterday, 1008 voters qualifying
for the primaries. Only once was the
registration room congested. The big
force of clerks handled the crowd dur
ing the noon rush hour with dispatch
and hurried things along as much as
possible.
Among the early visitors to the
Courthouse was Mayor Albee, who
Identified, himself as a Progressive, and
Kave his occupation as .Mayor of Port
land. "With a view of accommodating those
whose hours of employment are the
same as the regular registration hours,
from 8 A. M. until 5 P. M., County Clerk
Coffey announced that he will keep
the registration room open every Sat
urday nlgrht until 9 o'clock.
"By opening at night once a week
we hope to relieve much of the conges
tion which we would have to contend
with immediately before the closing of
the books," said Mr. Coffey. "We will
have to open at night before the regis
tration Is completed and I hope as
many as possibly can will register
early."
Registration in the course of the day
by party follows: Republicans, 659;
Democrats, 195; Progressives, 61; Inde
pendents. 47; Prohibitionists, 44, and
Socialists. 12.

road Commission, acting; for the Com
mission, in an effort to secure a cor
rect valuation of the property.
The Commission Is securing. a valua
tion of all railroads In Oregon.
SHRINERS ATTEND THEATER
Manager of "Quaker Girl" Company
Is Honored by Xobles.
Something like 200 men sat in the
Heilig Theater last night listening to
"The Quaker Girl" melodies and com
edy, and. not one of them made any
pretense of taking off his headgear.
But then they were privileged charac
ters. They wore the fez of the Mystic
Shrine and were there to honor their
friend. John P. Slocum, of Mecca Tem
ple, New York, who is manager of "The
Quaker Girl" company.
The nobles and their ladies occupied
the front part of the house and numer
ous little personal hits were made to
fit tho occasion, such as quarantining
oue of the principals in the cast just
because Noble George Stapleton was
prevented from attending the perform
ance on. account of some of his children
having mea3les.
The performance was extended be
yond the usual length on aecount of
speeches by the star and replies, and
it was 11:30 o'clock before the fimtl
curtain fell.
