THE MORNING OREGOXIAN, THURSDAY, JANUARY 29, 1914. HARDWARE EN ELECT! LOT I.. PEARCE, OP SALEM, IS LECTED PRESIDENT. SE- TUeTubc.ru of Oreiien Association Uave Interesting Programme at An. naal Sleeting; Here. At the second day of the Oregon, Re tail Hardware and Implement Dealers' convention yesterday In the Imperial Hotel officers were elected, with the exception of a secretary and treasurer, who will be elected by the new executive committee today. The new officers are: Lot L. Pearce, balern. president, and Ueorge T. Bald win. Klamath Falls, Or., vice-president. The new executive committee Is com posed of A, F. Stearns, Oakland, Or.: F. if. Sexton, The Dalles, Or.; R. J. Wil lis, Ooldendale, Wash.; F. E. Chambers, liusrene. Or., and A, I Jameson, Mc Minnvlllo, Or. The first three named will serve for two years each and the others for one. An interesting: address was given yesterday by Frank D. Blake, director of the John Deere Plow Company, Mo lina, 111., on "Advertising." Mr. Blake recommended to the dealers the use of the home papers of Oregon as advertising- mediums. A, L. Jameson read a paper on "Credits and Collections as Viewed From a Retailer's Standpoint." Much Interest was taken in the "question box," into which any of the dealers who wished information on points connected with their business placed their questions, which were an swered by some authority on the sub ject and discussed generally after wards. New Photo Plays Open Columbia. THE "Mutual Girl" made her Initial bow la Portlaml yesterday at the Columbia and was given a most cordial reception. The women were enthusi astic over her because with her they visited the famous establishment of Lu etic, in New York, and saw many mag nificent gowns displayed on living mod els. Although only the first chapter in her career was disclosed, it was sufficient to create much anticipation of her fu ture. First she was seen as a coun try arlrl in her humble home in a small village. An invitation from her wealthy aunt to visit the latter in the Ameri can metropolis opened the way lor her to enter an entirely new life. "The Primitive Call." a Domino re lease, tells the story of how a wealthy young New Yorker is mastered by, the call of the primitive. One of the funny Keystone comedies entitled "The Flirt s Mistake ' is shown, in which Mabel Normand is featured. Another Keystone film is "Russian Wolf Hounds." Miss Dora Morton enter tains with her songs. Peo riles. AT THE Peoples Theater, Cecelia Loftus in "A Lady of Quality" is drawing fine crowds, while the dancing Vlctures of Sebastian are proving quite a pleasing1 revelation to society folks. The attractive feature of the work of Mtss Loftus as Clorlnda is her emotional power. She is also a remark able feiicer and in the duel scene with her recreant sweetheart she unhands him quite nattily. Miss Loftus has told her camera ex periences. She said that there was at rehearsals an almost overpowering de sire to look at the camera. This is an unpardonable sin among film ac tors and has spoiled many a good pic ture. There is not one scene in which Miss Loftus has shown guilt in this direction. The result has been a mighty fine piece of work. This was the sin of Bernhardt, Hackett, Nat Goodwin and a host of others who earlier posed. New 'Star. THE New Star Theater yesterday presented aa its feature the third Installment of the "Adventures of I Kathlyn," entitled "The Temple of the Lions." It is a remarkable tale of ad venture among; the wild animala of the jungrlea of India. It contains new and novel situations and shows that Miss Williams Is not only a splendid actress, but a fearless woman. In the climax she is saved in the nick of time from the claws of beasts of the jungle. "The Masqueraders" is also a multiple reel dealing: with denizens of the un derworld. They are captured and one of them pays the penalty and when released from prison tries to redeem his unsavory past. "When Billy Pro poses" is one of the best lau&hmakers the New Star has ever exhibited. A female Impersonator who seta a silly man to pop the question creates con tinuous merriment. Arcade. )R real harmless sensation and thrilling- excitement nothing better has been shown In a long period than "The Clew of the Broken Finger," which la now enjoying a good run at the Arcade Theater. A man with a broken finger commits a crime and upon his release from jail Is suspected of having been guilty of another. The officers begin the chase for his capture and hound him through every conceiv able situation. The man adopts many marvellous dis guises to escape and takes the most desperate chances. At last thay discover that the woman supposed to be dead has not been killed and that the ex-convict was Innocent f any offense. It shows, however, CLASSIFIED AD. Dolly or Bandar. RATES Per Line.
