The County Court of Clackamas County has transformed Itself Into a board of equalization and spent today listening to the complaints that have been filed against the assessments made by the County Assessor. The court is expecting a large number of complaints this year, and will be in session for several days hearing the arguments of those opposed to the present valuations. ' Portlund Engineers Seek Job. With a' badly scratched face and probably a fracture at the base of the skull, Frank Lawrence lies at the Cor vallis Hospital in a precarious condi tion. Hot Box Causes Small Fire. OREGON CITY, Sept. 9. (Special.) A small fire caused by a hot box in one of the machines of the Willamette Iulp & TaDer Company ' at 12:45- o'cloi-lc Tuesday afternoon burned tho dryer felt and overhead timbers and was ex tinguished by the mill hose. An hour later the machine begnn to smoke acain. but was soon di tuched with wa ter and no material damage done. It will be in operation again in a lew days, ...
