Asso ciation approves of the compromise proposed at Woodlawn Friday night to open the Intake at the cast t ml of Columbia slough to admit water from the Columbia River with a view to developing a current to carry off sew erage. At the meeting of the association Monday night in the North Portland Library a resolution was passed in sup port of the plan to ask the Council to appropriate $-i,000 to dredgo out the Intake, and appointed a committee to confer with tlie Woodlawn and other elubt on this new plan. KEMP STILL ON PAROLE Partner In TlicTt Pronounced Weak Mlnded and Is Dismissed. Another chance .to make pood was given George Kemp, who on Januarv 13 stole the automobile of Dr. Ernest A. Sonier. by Circuit Judge McGinn yesterday. Kemp was sentenced to from one to 10 years in the peniten tiary and Elven an Immediate parole. The case against William Hefron, his partner in the theft of th automobile, was dismissed. Following his arrest Hefron was examined as to his sanity, but was not pronounced insane, al though tlie physicians who examined 1:1m pronounced nim of weak mental ity. (Special) Frank Taylor, charged with passing worthless checks, was brought here from San Francisco today by Deputy Sheriff Bown. Deputy Sheriff Bown sent a picture of Taylor here and this served as identification. The officers believe his name is J. W. Keith, but he declares it is Taylor. He was bound over to the grand Jury under $2500 bonds. T..e man is said to have operated at Medford on his way south and is be lieved to have passed bad checks at Pendleton and in Eastern Washington.
