Last week there waa a much better feeling In the Oregon - Newtown market, which led us to think that . there was going to be a finish of the period of stagnancy. As far as this week Is con cerned, however, our Ideas have not ma terialised and things have been Just about as alow as ever. We -are hopeful that the requirements for Chriatmas may move some f the stocks here and that Is all we feel we can say about It. With regard to Cali fornlan Xewtowns, ti tiers have gone out a little belter this week and they have realized from 5s tq 3s Od. Although, how ever. 6s Is being asked for four tiers, they leem to be unsalable at the price. On the other hand, barrels are moving r.-eely aud we are pleased to report a rise of from Is to is per barrel on a parcel of Maine Baldwins we had for sale here this week. This variety generally meet, with a good demand for the Christmas trade and we are hopeful of doing better still during the next two weeks. f In Liverpool Canadian stock Is doing very well and Greenings especially have met with a very good demand, aa high as 2l)s per barrel being obtained. There have been heavy arrivals of Maine stock and whil.t at the beginning of the week sound .tuff made from 12s to 13s. arrivals at the end of the week were mostly out of condition and realised anywhere from As to 12s. Turkish Market Quiet. There baa been little business done this week in Texas Fall mohair, one lot of some 73,000 to 100,000 pounds bringing 35 cents, which la about the basis for sales of this year's hair, says the American Wool and Cotton Reporter. Advices from the English centers Indicate a sluggish market, with demand including only some low sorts and miscellaneous lots at steady prices. Export trade In yarns, so far as new con tracts are conemed. Is very dull. Advices from Constantinople Indicate the sale of only some 30O or 400 bale, during the month of Xuvrtuberwtth prices hardly chunged. From the Cape come, advice ol rather brisk trading, more especially In Winter hair, which has recently changed hands to the extent of several huudrcc bales at Sd to Od. CALIFORNIA URAFES COME IX BBLS. Parked In .Hawdimt liar the Imported Arti cle and sell Well. A shipment of California Red Emperor grapes, packed In sawdust in barrels like imported Almeria grapes, reached Front street yesterday. The grapes were in much better condition than those packed In crates. They rold readily at $5 a barrel. The Jobbers are well stocked up In all line for the holiday trade, but prices are firm. Country holiday orders will begin arriving the latter part of tbe week. The orange market is In good shape, and the demand is satisfactory. Apples continue to drag. NEW- YORK, Dec 17. There was a de cided slowing down of speculative activity today and the stock market appeared list less by comparison with recent days of fever ish trading and spectacular fluctuations. Traders who bought stocks eagerly yesterday after announcement of the Supreme Court's anthracite decision showed little Inclina tion to follow up the rise today. Specula tion lagged and quotations fell back. Movements were Irregular and halting, Reading at one time sold 2 below yester day's close, and later a point over. The gen eral list veered back and forth and ended the day with moderate losses predominating. Call money rates were somewhat firmer and this reminder of monetary conditions which may prevail at the close of the year helped to check speculative activity. The bond market was irregular with a lower tendency. Total sales, par value, $1. 660,000. united States bonds were un changed on call. CLOSING STOCK QUOTATIONS. Reported by J. C.
