FEAR CROP DAMAGE
Wheat Market Turns Strong in

OPENING WEAK AND LOWER
Kansas and Nebraska In Need of

Fly Does Mischief.
CHICAGO. May 2C. Increasing fear of
crop rlsmsge made the wheat market to
day develop a good deal of strength In ths
lata trsdlng. aftsr being wek and lower
the first half of the session.
Bullish new. that cam from Kansas and
Nebraska waa reinforced by suggestions of
crop Injury, wider spread both to the north
and south. Without rain In a few days,
experts agreed that th yletfl of Western
Kanaas and Western Nebraska would suffer
losses, th extent of which would b meas
ured In millions of bushels. Serious mis
chief already from Hessian fly was re
ported by Kansas City. Hot winds In Texas
and Oklahoma were said to be tmpslrlng
wheat not yt In th head and thsre wer
complaint of exrcesslv molstur In th
Dakota and Minnesota.
Most of ths influences that at time
turned ths whaat market to ths bear aid
cam from abroad. Xrg world's hlpmnt
and fr offerings from India and Argen
tina cut a figure In this report, a also did
the fact that tha decrease la the world-
available stock wa only about a tenth a
much as a year ago.
Liquidating sale of a scattered sort, dis
pelling rumors of a squeexs, caused a break
In the price of May corn. Other deliveries
of ths cereal, however, showed firmness.
Provision wers higher.
