James A- Woodward waited only until th charge against him was quashed by the grand Jury to attempt further forgery, and is now a fugitive from Justice. An attempt to secur $500 on a forged telegram haa mad him an object of search by officers of Linn and Lane Counties. Woodward came to Albany last Sum mer from San Luis Obispo. Cal.. wher he left numerous creditors after fail ing in a restaurant business. Woodward was released from Jail that he might support his wife and the baby born soon after h was set at liberty. H obtained a po sition as a cook In a local-restaurant, and as he had apparently reformed th grand Jury refused to Indict him when it met last month and made his release and a man named Bald win, with whom h was working, bought th Bon Ton restaurant ten days ago. They purchased It from F.stes Broa. who prepared to return to their horn In Tennessee. Obtaining th address of th father of th Estes boy Woodward went to Eugen last Friday and telegraphed him, signing the name of on of th boy and say ing In th message that they wer In trouble and asking hlra to Bend 1500 at one. II told th Eugene operator to call him up at th Bon Ton res taurant when the money cam. F.stes sent th money, but Instructed the operator to hav his son Identified before payment. Th Johnson woman was not sn Sunday, but It was noted that a larg fir had been built In the furnace, which heated the whole house. As this furnace wss In full blast at o'clock, when the family aros. Ha was taken to the County Jail and the North Dakota authorities were notified by telegraph to send in formation on which to base a fugitive complaint and to send a man West for the prisoner. Fetterer adopted the alias. Jack Fry, after coming to Portland and starting to work on the construction of the Broadway bridge. Ha Is a caisson worker. The pressure underneath the river was too strong and he was sent to St. Vincent's Hospital, where he re mained for several weeks. The Sheriff was asked to srrest Fet terer, the Dickinson Sheriff having Just discovered his whereabouts.
