Wilson, principal. Charles Winson Letter at Gen. Del. TRIAL AGAIN IS DELAYED JOHXSOX CASK HANGS FIRE IX POLICE COUKT. Kicnlin Complains of Repeated Ex tensions Granted Offend :r Vnder Liqnor Laws.. Police Sergeant Ktenlen, who has made repeated raids on the Delmcmico Restau rant, conducted by Edward Johnson on Seventh street between Alder and Morri son, complained to Chief of Police Cox, yesterday of the numerous times he was forced to forego his sleep in order to at tend court only to find that for some un explained reason the case had been post poned. Yesterday morning Johnson's case, which came up on November 19, was again continued, this time until December 14. At "J.he time of the last raid by the police. n November 13, Johnson was charged with the double offense of sell ing liquor after 1 A. M. and selling liquor without a license. The case was put ofT until November 30, in spite of the rule usually adopted of allowing only one day's continuance, and on Novem ber 30 It was continued again until De cember 7. Yesterday it was again con tinued until December 14. These continuances were permitted by Deputy District Attorney Sullivan and allowed by Judge Bennett despite the fact that on several different occasions Chief of Police Cox had either sent Ser geant Klenlen or gone himself to the office of City Attorney Kavanaugty and urged action against Johnson.. Johnson's license was recently taken away from htm for conducting an unde sirable resort. His record with the police shows that on March 8. 1900, he was ar rested for selling liquor on Sunday and the case was dismissed on the motion of the District Attorney. On May 15. after liaving escaped the first conflict .with the law. he was arrested again for selling liquor after 1 A. M. and was fined $100 in the Municipal Court. On August 25 he was again arrested, this time after his license had been taken away by the Council, and he was again fined $300 in the Municipal Court. ' Three days after this Johnson was caught on August 28 for selling liquor without a license and was sentenced to 60 days on the rockplle and to pay a fine of $100. The last case was appealed, and both the former cases. It is said, are still pending on appeal In the Circuit Court. In all instances Johnson has managed to delay the penalties in his cases. Several times he has. assured the police that he would sell out, but still he continues to do business. Chief of Police Cox made a demand upon the City Attorney's office yesterday that some Interest be shown in the prosecution of Johnson and Inti mated that If he were left to fight the battle alone he would stir things up.
