Hayner. alias Mrs. Edmund Thiele. at Oakland today on a charaa of" biaxny. reveals one of the most remarkable stories of matrimo nial adventure on record, reaching the climax when the two husbands banded to gether and No. 1 ent No. 2 to PorUand. Oregon, to decor his wrife within the reach of the court. A little more than a week ago. Edmund Thiele. who is a well-to-do druggist of . Crockett. Contra Owta County, went to Portland and found his "wife." By prom ise of finery and Jewels he induced her to return with him to Oakland and they . went to the Alta Vista apartments. Then ' rfo. 1. WUllara R. Hayner. was summoned by No. 1. and It Is said that the two hus bands held the woman a virtual prisoner for several days while tbey prepared the ' evidence which, resulted in her arrest today. leaves- No. 1 In Denver. The woman's maiden name was May Ferguson and she was married to Hay ner twenty years ago in Jefferson Coun- ty. Iowa. They lived until about a year ago in Denver. Then Mrs. Hayner sud denly departed westward, bringing her ' 17-year-old daughter with her. Just 37 I years old and very pretty, she soon made friends and last Spring she met Thiele. : On June of this year she and Thiele and her daughter went to San Rafael, where they were married. Mrs. Hayner was taken to Ban Rafael this evening from Oakland by a consta ble and lodged in the County Jail. She will be brought before a Justice of the peace on Saturday on a charge of big amy. Says Xo. 2 Lured Her On. The woman's daughter left tonight for Portland. She claims to have a husband there, though nothing definite on her married state can be obtained here. The woman's son. aged 19. is now with the father. Mrs. Hayner-says she will make it hot" for Thiele for having, "played that dirty trick' saying that he used every allure ment to entioe her to marry regardless of her undlvoroed state. T.. whose real name is Be bro. has been found guilty In the Crim inal Court and sentenced to five years penal servitude. The charges against him were of fraud in connection with the bankruptcy of Feltham s Bank, which he founded. In the course of the trial, evidence was given that he had defrauded more than 500 persons through the bank. It was also adduced that he had swindled 1000 other persons by means of the Interna tional Securities Corporation. GRADE WHEAT UNIFORMLY All Interests Hope for Agreement, Lest Government Step In. INDIANAPOIJS. Ind., Oct. 7. Uni form grading of wheat, the most import ant question before the grain interests of the country, was the principal sub ject of discussion in the conventionof the National Graindealers today. It is hoped that it will be possible to formulate a grading upon which the Chi cago Board of Trade and all other wheat interests shall be able to agree, and thus fend off general Government inspection, to which the majority of the members of the association ar opposed. Captain Fined for Smuggling. LOS ANGELES. Oct. 7. Captain Zel genmeyer. of the steamship Eras, of the Independent Steamship Line, pleaded guilty in the United States District Court today to a charge of having smuggled Panama hats into this country snd was fined 11000 by Judge Wellborn.
