BUTTER UP ONE GENT
OVERNIGHT ADVANCE IN THE

rtrmness in the Melon Trade Sew.
era! Sales of Bloestem Wfccat
Are Reported.
S BATTLE. Wash., Aug. 8. (Special.)
The trade will bo greatly surprised In th,
morning to find that butter has been ad
vanced a cent over night. The new quota
tion will be 81 eenta Th, dealers decided
to advance th. price late this atternoon.
Several large dealers were opposed to a 1
cent advance, advocating a 8-cent Jump or
none at all at this time. Th, one-cent
dealers won out. however. It would not be
surprising If there 1, another advance later
In the week.
Cantaloupes are In none too liberal supply
and watermelons are better cleaned up to
night than slnoe the fruit commenced to
arrive several weeks ago.- Dealers were able
to get 2 cents for choice stock.
The wheat market was much livelier to
day with several 5000-bushel sales negotiated
at (1.01 for bluestem. According to ship
ping men, 46 vessels are under charter to
date to . carry grain from Puget Sound to
foreign markets. It Is expected that the
first cargoes will be shipped from Vancou
ver, B. C, this year. Several advances were
made today on rolled oats and rye products.

Banner Whrert Crop In Weston Country Thl,
Season.
WESTON. Or.. Aug. 8.. (Special.) Th,
banner wheat crop so far reported In this
vicinity was eeoured by J. N. York from 190
acres, belonging to J. R. Killgore. two miles
north of town. The entire tract was In
Dal, wheat, and averaged 50 bushels per
acre. One "forty" yielded 637 sacks, an
average of 644 bushels Mr. York" harvest
ed th. quarter section In three days with a
28-lnch machine. He Is regarded as one of
the most careful and successful farmers In
th, Weston enuntry4 and handle, a large
acreage belonging to himself and others.
W. A. Barns harvested 421 sacks from 20
acres adjoining town on th, west, an average
of 47 bushels per acre.
Ed Simpson secured 1330 sacks from TO
acres of Spring-sown barley on Wild Horse
Creek, south of town. This Is considered an
especially good yield for "Spring grain" In
any season.
G. PeGraw Is cutting his Dale wheat soutn
of town with his combined ban-ester. The
quality Is extra fine, smut being almost
entirely absent, but Mr. DeOraw Is somewhat
disappointed in the yield. He had the
ground in potatoes last year, and estimates
that this ha, cost a loss ot at least ten
bushel, per acre In this year1, crop of
wheat. Corn has proved unprofitable as
an odd-year crop' In this section, becauso of
it, demands on the soil, but potatoes were
supposed to be beneficial. Evidence tp the
contrary shown this season will probably
cause a return to the old methods of Sum
mer fallowing, whereby the ground Is left
idle In th, odd year.
From 70 acres of wheat. Just south of
town. Alexander Klnnear has sacked a yield
of 43 bushels per acre. Two years ago
this ground produced as average of nearly
(0 bushels. ' v '

It had been claimed the sockeye supply
was being depleted to an extent that
threatened the extinction of the fish
through the operation of the traps. Is de

present runs, are showing that the supply
has not been largely decreased. The

traps are full.
Four hundred and Blxty-four thousand
