Enjoin Rioting.
PTTTFFt"R, July 20. The first effort
ever made In the United States to atop
a strike by enjoining both the principals
and the Commonwealth failed today when
the Common Pleas Court sustained the
demurrer of the Pressed Steel Car Com
pany to the petition for an Injunction
made by l'.:r Public Defense Association
of Pitisburjc against the company, the
striking employee and the Sheriff of Al
legheny County. The court said:
"We And this court has no right to
compel the company to re-employ these
men or to compel the company to operate
Its plant again or pay Its men more money
or to Install a new wage system."
Judges Broun and Ford, however, stated
that they would entertain prayers for
Injunction against either the Btrikers or
the company In the event of further riot
ing. STRIKE SETTLED AT BUTLER
Both Sides Vlcld When Polish
Priest Acts as Mediator.
BUTLER. Pa., July 20. The strike
which for four days has tied up the
Etandarri Steel Car Company's works
was settled late today. The 3500 em
ployes of the plant will return to work
tomorrow. Both sides yielded points.
The settlement was effected through
the efforts of Kev. father K. Becwezkl
of the Polish Catholic Church. The
company agreed to take back all of the
workmen and consented to a reduction
to 10 per cent of the amount delin
quent rents taken from the pay en
velopes of the men.
Father Becwezkl. acting for the
strikers, then agreed to abandon the
men's demand for an Increase In wages
and consented to the company's state
ment that It would follow its custom
in such matters.
OFFER n.TIMATCM AT BUTLER
Employes Make Extreme Demands
on Standard Car Company.
BUTLER. Pa., July 3a This after
noon, after falling to get a report of the
action Intended by the Standard Car
Company on the strikers' proposition to
return to work, the men canceled their
offer and delivered an ultimatum that
the state constabulary must be removed
st once, that all strikers now In jail be
released, that the company officials treat
with the men and give assurances of an
Increase In pay as soon as conditions
warrant and that the amount taken out
of earn man's wages for arrears of rent
be reduced from 20 to 10 per cent. The
arrears are for the time when the plant
was closed.

No Appeal to Government.
WASHINGTON. July 20. Instead of
appealing to the State Department In
an effort to adjust the differences be
tween their striking countrymen at Mc
Kees Rocks. Pa., and the Pressed Steel
Car Company, the Austro-Hungarlan
consular officials are to take up the
subject with the Pennsylvania state
officials.
