Chief Ed Plnnance. the reliable Portland twirler. had one bad Inning yesterday, or. to be exact, his support srot the wobble In the seventh, and the Spokane team scored four runs and broke up what had been a close and exciting; contest up to that period. The final score wits S to 2 in favor of the hitless Indian wonders of the previous day. However, Dode Brinker. Spokane's util ity player, proved- himself something; of a slab artist, in addition to his other at tributes, for up to the ninth inning, when three hits were secured, he had held Casey's men to two lonely blngies as their portion. In the first inning- the Chief had bad luck, but it was not so apparent as in the seventh. Jack Clynes was ths first Epokane batter to face Plnnance. and was safe at first because Cooney heaved wild ly to the bag. pulling; Mullln away to stop the flight of the ball. Altman forced Clynes af second on a tap to Plnnance. and "Weed forced Altman In the same manner, and had Casey's relay to first been a trifle more accurate, a double would have resulted and Spokane retired runless. Weed then scored when James hit for two bases. Trouble Comes In Sornlh. A pass to Bassey. Mulltn's sacrifice. Oarry's out and Brown's fumble of Sta ton's bounder gave Porfland one run in the fifth, and tied up the score until the fatal seventh. Plnnance was pitching fine ball all the time, and his support worked with him until The blow-up. Ostdiek opened the seventh with a le gitimate two-sack drive to left. Brown's bunt fell in front of the plate, and Mur ray fried to get Ostdiek going to third, but Staton was slowing in getting the bag and muffed the throw, both men be ing safe. Brinker then dropped a short fly back of second, which Garry caught, but In stead of throwing to Murray immediately, he made funny motions, and Ostdiek took a chance and scored on his following poor toss to Murray. Cooney booted Clynes' grounder, and Brown went to third. Alt man singled to left, scoring Brown. Weed bit fo Cooney. who threw dynes out at the plate, but both Weed and Altman .scored on Bobby James' second two-sack sma3h. which gave Spokane a total of five runs. Portland Rally Dors Not Count. Portland rallied in the ninth, but it was only a flash. Bassey opened with a (wo-sacker to riKht- Mullln a out was uneventful, but Garry beat out an In field tap along the third-base line, and when Staton singled to loft. Bassey scored another run for the home team. Adams and Murray were disposed of by Brinker. and the game was over. Rasty Wright and Vic Holm will pitch for Spokane today, while Casey mill de pend upon Howard Guyn or Tom Sea ion. The official score of the game is as fol lows: SPOKANK. NNNG A B. R. H. P.O. A. E.
