THE MORNING ORF.fiOXIAX. FIJIDA Y. MAY 21. 1000. 1I LITTLE WOOL LEFT Over 75 Per Cent gf Eastern Oregon Clip Sold. REMAINDER WILL GO SOON y Only Sealed Bid Sale Will Be Held at Slianiko Today Valley Wool Is Active and Higher. Orw 73 per cent of the 10O wool clip In Eastern Oregon has already been sold and the remainder will be cleaned up In short order, according to the leading wool buy ers here. The principal untold holding are In the Shanlko section, and even there the buyer have lately been operating. Snanlko la probably the only Eastern Oregon potnt that will bold a sealed bid sale this 'year, as In other localities the growers sold early. The Bhanlko sale eccvrs today. The bulk of the sales east of the mountains bay been at IT to 20 H cents, with some en clips bringing 21 cents. Shearing is about rer now. The TVany wool market has become quit active. Dealers are o ft wing 34 H cents for fine. 23 cents for medium and 83 cents far choice Valley wool. En Tdaho. th clip Is also well sold up U only ona of th many scheduled sales win take place, tb at at Mountain Horn. Idaho growers hay received up to 21 cents for their wool. f It Is claimed that not mar than 0.000.000 cr 6,000.000 pounds of th total of approx imate! y 80,000.000 pounds grown In Hon tar.a are now owned by th sheepmen. In "Wyoming probably flO or 60 per cent of th clip' has changed hands, owing to th fact that the wool buyers did not enter that Stat for contracting as early as was the case tn Montana. Th feature of th week In Montana was th purchase of th Harvey clip at Billing try a Middle West operator at 24 oents. th record price In the stats to date. Growers are now asking 23 cents for th best wool that la unsold. F-urthsr sales ars reported from Wyoming at 22 to 23 14 cents. Th lower price waa paid for a number of small clips around Rock Springs, while th latter was given at Douglas for a clip of 100.000 pounds by a Boston operator. Shearing Is delayed by bad weather In many parts of Wyoming, and a number of sheepmen will not shear until after lambing. The shearing of 12 xVnthl wool Is now beginning In Texas and a few sales at 20 cents 'are reported. Eight months' fleeces are also being shorn and held at is. to IH14 cents. Shearing will not be genera! In New Mexico until next month. In their latest market report. Gordon. - Woodrofre A Co., of London, say of th English wool market: The market has continued strong sines our last report. In every branch of the trad there has been a steady forward movement, and prices have stiffened up all round. Wools of fine quality, that is merinos and fine crosnbreds, have been In specially good demand, and It must bo a long time since commission combers of the quslltles have 1. been so busy. Their machines hav been running full time; in spite of this they can scarcely keep pace with customers' de mands, and Tops, as soon as delivered from the combs, pass on to consumers, and there ar no stocks accumulating In dealers - hands This satisfactory stata of affairs obtains both In this country and on tha -Continent. Medium and coarse croasbreds. which for a time seemed to hang back a little, have lately shown some advance, this, no doubt, in some measure being du to some fair buying orders which have - been received from American houses. English wools also hav moved freely. SMAIi DEMAXB IX GRAIN MARKET. Bay RecetrrU Are Small VeHey Crop Is Quiet conditions prevail In the local grain market. A few small lots ri clob wheat are offering around 1.20. but there Is very little demand. Oats and barley ar also quiet and sup plle of the latter are practically exhausted. Hay receipts have been light this week, but heavier . shipments from th Interior ar promised for next week- Stocks tn the country have run very low and dealers say that high prices are certain for th re mainder of the season. Tb Valley hay crop is backward. Ixreal receipts. In cars, were reported by th Merchants Fxchange as follows: Wheat Barley Flour Oats Hay May 15-18 . . Strawberry receipts wer not large yes terday and prices held steady. Oregon ber ries brought 10013 cents a pound and Cali fornia sold at 81 91. so per crate. Receipts from tha south today and tomorrow will be light. 1 hree cars of bananas arrived, nearly all green. Gooseberries wer In large supply and the market was weaker, at 617 cents a pound. Rhubarb was scarce and firmer. CITY CREAMTJRY BUTTER IX DEXAXD. Orders ExTtred the Output and Market Is linn. The city creamery market remains on a firm basis, notwithstanding the easier feel ing on Front street. The demand for local creamery butter Is good and some of the creameries are unable to fill all their orders- It Is not likely there 111 be any change In prices this week. The egg market was a sluggish afTalr. Receipts were not Urge, but the demand was so poor that It was Impossible to keep down a surplus. rtmall lots were quoted at 24 cents and large lots at 3H cents. The demand for poultry was good and prices were strong. Potato Market Mox-h Firmer. The potato market was In better shape yesterday than It has been for several daya Offerings c.f old stock by farmers were '"T light, and there Is little doubt that the country is now practlcaly bare of last year's crop, except the few cars held by specula tors. The Pan Francisco market was firm, notwithstanding fairly liberal receipts- from this state, and '-! .- was again quoted there. As the movement south will be exceedingly small after this week. It Is. likely that higher prices will soon prevail. There waa some Inquiry from the Sound yesterday. Rope Bring- Cents. Xo additional business tn bop contracts was reported yesterday. but there was some activity In the spot market- II. L.
