Schools Will Not Closes. The Board
of Education has decided not to close
the public schools Monday. May 31 when
the Portland G. A. post, will hold
Memorial day cxerciees. A letter was
sent the board asking that the school
be closed on that day to give school chil
dren an opportunity of witnessing the
patriotic exercises, but In view of the
opening of the Rose Festival and the
giving of Friday afternoon preceding
memorial to the old soldiers to talk to
the children it wan decided that It would
not be wise to close the schools on Mon
day. May 31.
Mount Tabor Circld Meets. The
Mount Tabor Home Training Circle will
meet tljis afternoon, at the. West-avenue
schoolhouae at 3:30 o'clock. Mrs.
Hutchinson will sing at this meeting. Mrs.
Frank Kelsay. the new president. ls ex
pected to be present to announce the
committees for the enduing year. An In
teresting programme will be given, fol
lowed by a social. It will be the last
meeting for the school year.

parents live at BJ8 Thurman street, was
picked up at 7:30 o'clock last night In
the City Parjc. Patrolman Burke took
her to the police station and kept her
there until her father called and took
charge of her. The tot had been mlsatng
from her home el nee o'clock in th.
morning and had wandered about the
city without anything to eat all day.
