With the exception of a bWfw-up

ning today. When the local flayers
crowded In five tallies, the Portland team
put 1t all over Dillon's "Champs." and
won out with a score of 7 to 6. Garrett
replaced Harkness In the box In the
fourth Inning and ifom that time on
IjOs Angeles couldn't find the plate. The
visitors, however, played consistently and
ent men across in the second, third and
seventh. The scores were made on the
following plays:
In the second. Johnson, the first man
up. singled to left center, Kennedy put
an easy one to Delmas, but was safe
when Howard dropped the shortstop's
throw and Johnson was resting easy
on the second bag. Breen filed out to
Ilaley. Then Brlswalter presented first
to Armhruster. which filled the bases.
Harkness made a pretty double to cen
ter, scoring Johnson. Kennedy and
Armhruster. Ryan was out on a pop
fly to Brlswalter. In the third Olsen
walked, Ort wss safe on an Infield lilt
trying to sacrifice. jOlsen going to
third. Ort stole seoond and McCredie
walked, filling the bases. Johnson
doubled to center, scoring Olsen and
Ort. Kennedy, Breen and Armhruster
were out one. two, three.
In the seventh Ryan was out. How
ard to THllon: Olsen walked: Ort
popped to Smith, McCredie singled to
right, advancing Olsen to third. John
son singled to left, scoring Olsen. and

Casey opened the matinee with a sin
gle and Cooney turned the same trick.
Oasey was nipped at second trying to
steal and Mullen was safe on a fumble
and Cooney scored on the same plav.

then to enliven the game, the Italian
stole third.
When it came to the second round,
two Infield fumbles and Casey's single
scored Staton and Fournier. Cooney
rapped out a neat single to center, scoring
Casey.- While waiting for the scoring In
the ninth, Casey slammed out another
single and Staton hit for two bases. In
the ninth Swanton was safe on a fumble
and went to third on Staton's second two
bagger. Troeh now took Fournler's place
behind the bat and celebrated his debut
Into the game by clouting a long, rakish
single to left that rambled to the fence,
on which both Swanton and Staton
scored. While Casey was being morgued
at second on Cooney 's drive to center,
Troeh scored the elphth and last run.

never got but one man as far as third.
While Gardner was In the box he gave
a splendid exhibition of getting out of a
hole. In the eighth, with two men out,
he walked Cooney. Bassey and Mullen,
then pulled himself together by fanning
Garibaldi. Cooney pulled off a circus play
in th fourth, when he speared a hot
drive oft Beaumont's bat that prevented
lots of trouble and was really the means
of the shut-out.

Goteh. the world's champion. Roller's
victory adds to the interest in his ap
proaching contest with John Berg. They
meet at the Exposition Rink tomorrow
night, and, judging by the demand for
seats, the rink is likely to be filled to
overflowing with fans who desire to see
the speedy Seattle medico grappler and
the clever Berg in action. The Roller
Berg bout will fill a long-felt want nicely,
for the two men should furnish keen ex
citement when they hustle for holds to
morrow night.
Berg came down from Eugene last
night, one day ahead of time, because
La Salle balked at working with him
any more. Berg proved too strong for
the former Chicagoan and, after being
thrown innumerable times each after
noon, finally called the proposition off
and told Berg he had better practice
on some larger athlete. Trainer Bill
Hayward. of the University of Oregon
was employed by Berg to assist him in
his training, and it is quite likely that
the famous Oregon man will be In
Berg3' corner on the night of the
match with Roller. Berg says he will
go on the mat weighing about 178
pounds Friday night.

and says he is ready to pitch a game

Last Saturday Judge iMcCredie received
his annual" from J. Cal Ewlng, presi
dent of the Pacific Coast League, and
this card bears the Inscription that it
entitles bearer to admission to any base
ball park at any town where the team
represented is affiliated with the Na
tional Association of Professional Base
ball Leagues and is countersigned by
Secretary Farrell of the association.
Yesterday President Lucas received the
annuals for the Northwestern League
magnates and Immediately made one out
for w. W. McCredie as well as the presi
dents of the other clubs. When Judge
McCredie returns from Seattle he will
find another card entitling him to admis
sion at the various baseball parks of the
association. However, as the judge can
not be in two places at once, only one
of these cards will prove of use to him at
a time.

John S. Barnes, one of the, moguls pro
moting the new Intel-mountain League
arrived in Portland yesterday morning,
and wore a most satisfied smile. The
smile was broad and the reason for that
is that the Intermountain League is .now
well on the way toward a successful sea
