The con gregation of the Universalis' Church of the Good Tidings will erect a new and modern church edlnce In the near fu ture. Owing to the importance of Port land in the Pacific Northwest the conr ventlon of the Universale Church has decided to contribute 50ipO toward a new edifice. It was through the efforts of Dr. James D. Corby, the present pastor, that this effer has been made by the general convention. Selection of another rite other than the present one on East Couch and Eighth streets wM. be made for the new structure, but the location has not been decided on. although some options have been obtained and locations examined. It Is thought that the present lot Is too far down town for a church, and a site will be found in a strictly resi dence district. In addition to the 5C00 from the general convention a consider able sum is expected from the congrega tion, so that an ediftce costing from JTrtX) tra!0.ono will probably be erected. This is a political waybill, started from Louisvme, jvy.. purporting to represent the shipment of one horsosnoe to Hon. r iiui "Z e.i.'uiaia Lincoln. Neb. The waybill was started by employes of the Illinois Central nauroaa. i waa described In the waybill as hav ing seven keystone seels attached, and belonging to group No. 18. The way bill is to travel all over the country, visiting the many railroad offices of the lesdlng lines, and all who receive it are asked to attach souvenirs and keep It goli.g. It Is said by the freight clerks who started it on Its way that It is to travel acapss the continent to bring luck to Billy Bryan and the Democratic party. But on its travels the waybill fell Into hands unfriendly to Mr. Bryan and early in its journey campaign cartoons were penciled on other way bills and attached, until, when the cam paign document reached Portland, It was accompanied by miscellaneous car toons and political sentiments that were about evenly divided between the two parties. ' On its way here the waybill had traveled through Texas and the other states of the Southwest, where much political capital had been marked on It. In California It received more cartoons that varied with the political opinions of the agenta handling it. At Portland a Taft cartoon was attached and the waybill was sent on its way yesterday.
