FLIGHTS ARE MADE Wilbur Wright Aviates Before Royalty. TAKES PASSENGERS ALONG Military Men Gnesta In Aeroplane. Machine Keeps Close to Ground, 7 Feet Being Highest Paint. Will Get Testimonial. LEMAXS, France, Oct. 8 Wilbur TVrlsTht, the American aeroplanist. to day mado tovtrivl flights, which wera iritsmeil by IX Queen Mar-a-herlta of Italy. Amonj hla passen gers were I.leuterant-General Baden jowelL of. the British army; Count Perire KaxnakofT. a chamberlain to the Husslan Emperor: Mrs. Bolle and Com mandant Bouttlneux. director of tho military aerostatic park at Medon. During- these filKhts. which were not of err great lengths. Mr. Wrlffht kept hla machine comparatively close to the around, except the flight In which he carried Commandant Bouttineux. when he ascended to a height of 75 feet. Later. Mr. Wright was presented to the Dowager Queen, who warmly con gratulated htm. A publlo subscription aa been opened at Lemano with the object of presenting a testimonial to Mr. Wright. WAXTS CONDITIONS IMPROVED Blerrlna; With 200-Ponnd Aero plane) Objects to Fort Myer. NTJW YORK. Oct. 8. A. M. Herring will take his 200-pound aeroplane to Cashington Saturday. According to his amended contract with the Government the official trials are to begin on Tues day. October 13. and he is confident that the machine will meet all require ments. Mr. Herring will try hard to get per mission to have the trials take place over hetter grounds than those at Fort Myer. where the flights of the Wright broth ers' aeroplane were made. He says the trees of Arlington Cemetery, post build ings, etc.. make the wind very tricky and for that reason a fair test cannot be had there. Because of the lightness of the Her ring machine (It weighs 650 pounds less than that of the WrlRht's) members of the Army Board on Aeronautics are tre mendously interested In It. and It Is like ly the rei"'-sts wi" ne grnnted. If not Herring will go ahead at Fort Myer ac cording to agreement. DAILY METl'.OKOMHilCAI. KEPORT. I'OHTI.AND. Oct 8. Maximum tempera ttir 75 degrees; minimum. 49.3 decrees. HKer reading at a A.
