SYNOD ENDS ITS SESOfON PRESBYTERIAN" MINISTERS RE CEIVE PROMISING REPORTS. Selection of Site for Minion School One of the Important Features of the Closing Meeting. The Columbian synod of the United Presbyterian Church closed Its session at the Church of the Strangers with an enthusiastic gathering and hopeful out look for the future. The closing busi ness features were the election of Rev. J. 6. Colvin. of Idaho, as moderator al ternate, and Rev. L. L. Lanning. of Washington, as stated clerk, the latter to hold four rears. The office of synodical superintendent of missions, newly created, was left un filled, a selection having been left to the Home Board of Missions; An Important matter of business was the selection of a site for a mission school. A tract of 80 acres on which stands a suitable school building, at Welser. Idaho, was offered the synod for IOM. togetlier with a promise of a yearly bonus amounting to the purchase price during the next live years. This prac tically makes the site and building a donation to the synod, and as there Is now a fund of S10.000 on hand from the sale of property at Waitsburg, Wash., the way is clear for the establishment of tha school. The matter was left to a commission of nine, headed by Rev. J. S. Colvin as chairman, to close the transaction on be half of the synod. Nearly all the delegates left for their homes yesterday. A few will remain here over Sunday, one of whom. Rev. A. B. Dickey, will occupy the pulpit of the Grand-Avenue Church at the morning service. The next aesslon of the synod will be held at Everett. Wash.. September ?1, 1909. BEST RIDERS WITH SHOW Buffalo Bill's Horsemen Come From Every Part of World. Many styles of horsemanship will be shown by the rough riders with Buf falo BUI'S wild West when It visits this city. These horsemen have been drawn from all the equestrian nations of the world. Russian Cossacks will ride with the Mexican vaquero, the American cowboy will be shown In contrast with the Bedouin Arab, the military grace of the Royal English Dragoons, Irish Lancers and German Cuirassiers wHl be easily compared with the native recklessness of the American Indian. To see all the horsemen In their native land.' who will be in the saddle with Buffalo BIll'B Wild West, one wtuld be compelled to travel the world over. WILL GIVE- SALOME DANCE Portland Theater-Goers . to . See At traction That Caused Sensation. Portland is ' to see the famous Sa lome dance, so', prepare to be mildly jarred, perhapa .shocked, perhaps scan dalized, but probably the sensation caused will not be so violent, after all. The East is decidedly "crazy" over the dance, which has not yet Invaded this section of the country. Manager Dan Flood, of the Lyric, yesterday signed contracts by which Miss Nedra Lanscombe, one of the most famous of all the new devotees of the semi-nude dance, will be seen at the Lyric In connection with the regular performance of the Blunkall stock company during the week of September 27. It is learned on good authority that Miss Lanscombe will re ceive 600 for her week's doing of the daring dance for Portland. Authorities disagree as to the merits of the Salome dance. There are those who aver that It la entirely too broad and sensual, while others see In It the highest expression of the art of Terp sichore. All agree that It Is a graceful affair and that the garments worn by the performer Jn no wise Interfere with her movements. - TEY TO COME TO SMITH'S EARLY TODAY; BUT WHETHER YOU COME EARLY OR LATE, YOU CAN PICK TROM TONS OF THE CHOICEST CUTS OP MEAT TO BE HAD IN PORTLAND.
