Owners of Fine Homes Discuss Or ganization of Vigilance Commit tee to Punish Firebug. NEW YORK. July SO. So many fires, clearly of Incendiary origin, have oc curred within the last two weeks up to anil including today, in what are known as the millionaire colonies" of Greater Neck, Manhasset. Port Washington and other towns In the North Hempstead district of I.oiik Island that radical measures have been determined upon and there is earnest talk of formation of a vlellanre committee to run down and inflict summary punishment. Some of the elaborate and costly es tates In the section affected are those of William K. Vanderbllt, Jr.. at Great Neck; Clarence H. Mackay, at Roslyn: Fourke Cochran and Howard Gould, at Port Washington, and Martin Hall, the beautiful residence of Mrs. White, who until her marriage a few days ago was Mrs. James 15. Martin. Great alarm was felt by owners of these and other nne places until the fires became of almost daily occurrence. A lookout for the Incendiaries was kept and when the Bay Side Yacht Club house was destroyed, one man was cap tured, convicted and sent to prison for a year. Apparently, however, this did not discourage what is now believed to be an organized band and the situation has become serious In the extreme. At least one Are has occurred In the district every day in the last fortnight, and on several occasions the volunteers have been called out to subdue as many as three In a day. - PENSION BILL AMENDED Lords Make Changes That Commons AVill Reject. It in said that some of the members of the tate organization approached Mr. CorUilyou before Mr. Hughes announced his willingness to accept a re-nomination, and these leaders asked Mr. Cortelyou wherther he would be willing to become a candidate if further consideration indi cated his probable nomination. It is not understood that the nomination was defin itely offered to Mr. Cortelyou. Mr. Cor tdlyou gave no explicit reply to these suggestions, but promised to consider the matter. .' Today the Evening Post published- the ntatement that it is hlehlv imnmhahlo that Mr. Cortelyou will allow the use of (his name. " Mining Magnate to Wed.
