WE ARE PORTLAND AGENTS FOR "VUDOR" PORCH SHADES Great Exploitation Sale And Demonstration of the Gossard "Lace Front" Corsets Said Mrs. Redding, the expert corsetiere who is with us this week representing the manu facturers, "they would have no more need of a corset than would a West Point cadet, but a woman won't, and when a woman won't, well It's L 'Irresistible or a Gossard corset for her." They are the only corsets in the world which compel the correct standing position. When a woman stands correctly, every part of her anatomy takes its rightful place. The flesh relieved of duress is naturally distributed in graceful proportion. No matter what the figure, it assumes its excellence of symmetry. Nature, not the corset, does this when given a chance. and THE j& CORSETS They Lace in Front. 1 1 1 afford nature this chance. , Positively they are the only corsets in the world suc cessfully designed and manufactured to achieve this great accomplishment. ARRANGES FDR AMBULANCE HEALTH board contracts WITH RED CROSS COMPANY. Day and Xlght Service Is Obtained With Ambnlanoe at AH Large Fire Relief to Police. After a lengthy discussion and much Igurlng th Health Board at Its meet kig yesterday morning; decided to Iward the city ambulance contract to tie Red Cross Ambulance . Company, (tier were three bidders for the con tact, bat the bid of one was not ac omsanled by check as required, while the other company took exception to handling calls of a contagious nature. It was suggested during the discus sion which followed the receipt of the bids that the city operate its own am bulance service, but careful figuring showed that thla arrangement would cost considerable more than letting out the contract to an individual company. The Board failed to see how the city could operate the service under $200 a month, to say nothing of the cost of an ambulance and the securing of horses. It would be necessary, so it was said, to have two drivers and two span of horses in order to maintain a night and day shift. The Red Cross Ambulance Company Is not particular what kind of calls It handles and. according to its bid. will do the work for $174 a month. It was estimated that altogether the city has an average of 80 calls to look after a month. Sixty of these calls, ac cording to Chief of Police Grttxmacher, come through the police station. Here tofore it has been necessary for the pa trol wagon to be utilized in answering these calls. This necessity has always been considered objectionable by the police. - Under the specifications it will be ne cessary for the Red Cross Ambulance service to. have one of its ambulances at all large or serious fires, as well as to answer all calls that come in, whether at night or during the day. The city will by this arrangement, be afforded a day and night service at what is considered an exceptionally reasonable expense. CI-0SING-OUT SALE Fine Dress Goods.
