Idaho. Tan. 10. Miss Irene Miller, a teacher In trie public schools at I-wlsvllle. seven mfjes "from Rigby, was shot and killed late last night by 1. F. Couch, principal of the school, who Immediately afterward committed suicide by sending a bul let Into his own brain. The underlying cause or the tragedy was a broken en gagement iii marriage. Miss Miller was a member of one of the old Mormon families of Utah, her father being M. M. Miller, of Salt Uke city. Principal Couch was a Missouri tin, who recently came to Idaho. The association of the two teachers In the local schools resulted in an eng-ag-e-intitit, but Miss Miller's parents object- 0, and when she returned from Sftlt lke City after the Christmas holidays fhe had decided to break: the ens&ae inent. Last night I'rofessor Couch called at tte home of Mrs. Winchester. Miss Miner's sister, where the latter lived. Miss Millet made known to him her dealslon. and the tragedy followed. Af ter sho had been shot. Miss Miller ran Into a bedroom where Mr. and Mrs. Winchester had beer) sleeping ahd fell dying1 across their bed. A few minutes later Principal Couch's body was found In the dooryard. Explosion Wrecks $100,000 Plant. HOULIDATSBUBO. Pa.. Jan. 10. The plant and buildings of the Standard Pow er Company, at Horrell, were destroyed by an explosion today. No lives were lost. The explosion was caused by a fire wh'eh started in one of the buildings. The damage done to the wrecked plant will exceed tlOO.OOO. Two housei a mile distant were wrecked by the explosion of SOOO kegs of dynamite, which was heard at m. diEtanee of 25 mile. among the- speakers at the labor confer- encrc at Mr?. Potter Palmer'! residence next Saturday night, under the auspices of the Kational Civic Federation. Mr. low and August Belmont, head of the federation, are expected to arrive today. Last week, the young man was best man at the wedding of his brother Arthur, which waa a fashionable event. He then came to New York. He had been offered a chance to enter financial life, but here he tried to gain a practical knowledge of en gineering through . a cousin, Wilford E. A dispatch to the Record-Herald from Minneapolis says: James Anderson, who died at the City Hospital here yesterday at the age of 11 years and 2 months, was. in the opinion of physicians, at least 60 yearn of age at the time of his death, so far as the condition of his vital organs determine the age of a man. When the child was S years old his hair began to tarn gray, his eyesight began to fall and he walked with the deliberate, care of a person well advanced in years. As a very young child he Was exceptionally bright, hut his mental faaulties were gradually fail ing for the last two years, so he was little better than a person In his dotage during the last few yean. .
