10 TIIE BIORX1XG OKEGOXIAX. SATURDAY, AUGUST 11, 1906. PENDLETON TO HAVE FUR COUNTY COURT OF UMATILLA GIVES $1000. Success of the Project Now Assured, as the City. Will Raise a Much Larger Sum. PENDLETON, Or., Aug. 10. (Special.) The Umatilla County Court this even ing appropriated $1000 to be turned over to the District Fair Association to be expended in providing- a county exhibit at the fair which is to be held in this city September 24 to 29. This makes a total of $2000 that is now available and trie success that has attended all efforts in the enterprise so far still continues. The appropriation .by the County Court was made possible by an act of the 1903 Legislature, which gives county courts the authority to appropriate a sum of money, not to exceed $10,000, each year out of the general county fund for the purpose of advertising the resources of the county and making exhibits of the same at county, state and .district fair. The application for the $1000 appro priation was made to the court yesterday morning by the executive committee of the fair commission, and after carefully considering the matter all day, and con sulting with as many of the large tax payers In different parts of the County as possible, the County Judge and Com missioners decided that it was for the best interests of the County to make the appropriation. If this action had not been taken by the Commissioners there was danger of the enterprise falling through, and in' that event the tlXO appropriation would have been lost. As it is, there is now in sight $2500 which, added to the $4000 which will be raised in Pendleton, makes it an assured fact that the first agri cultural fair to be held in this district since it was created will be a credit to the counties comprising the district and the State itself. In addition to the sums named, it is expected that Morrow County will ap propriate a sum of money sufficient to enable her representatives, to provide a creditable exhibit.
