BUTTER Prices are freely shaded. EGGS Market firmer, perhaps tem porarily. POULTRY Scarce and strong. A careful compilation of the unsold stocks of hops In Oregon, made yesterday by a num ber of local dealers, showed that only 1993 balm were left In growers' hands, as a re sult of the heavy buying that has been under way aince April 1. The supply in Washington la also running low, the amount left there being placed by Washington dealers at 1400 or 3500 bales. No close figures could be ob tained on the unsold stocks of California, but it is estimated that 000 or 0000 bales are yet in first hands. Growers stocks left In Oregon according to the figures compiled yesterday are, by dletrlct. a follows: Bales. I Bales. Aurora . Amity Brooks Crowley Eugene Gervais Harrlsburg ... Molalla Mount Angel .. North Tamhlll Oakland 21 Oregon City .... 104 .. 0 Portland 170 .. IS .. 247 .. ,22 .. 81 Reedvllle . SL Paul . Salem . . . . Yesterday's transactions -were placed at about 500 bales, but the particulars were withheld. Most growers who visit the city state that the yards 'In their section are being cult! rated this eeoson as well as usual, but this Is evidently not the case In Yamhill County, according to the Independence Enterprise, which says: A gentleman living in the eastern part of Tamhlll County says that a good many of the hopyards In his neighborhood are being neglected and will not be -worked this reason on account of the prevailing low prices of fered by contractors. , YvTLL SET MOHAIR PRICE. Sale at Dallas Today and Not Eddyville gale Wednesday Will Make tbe Market. Tho opening price in the mohair market will probably be fixed at Dallas today, when thi Polk County pool will be sold at auc tion. There will be. from 40,000 to B0.000 pounda of hair In the . poo. Last year the lot comprised about GO. 000 pounds, but this season the output of the district has been divided among three pools. The trade was -much Interested yesterday in the report printed In The Oregonlan of the sale of the Eddyville pool where the price was Tun up to S2?i cents. It was learned that the bidding was done by two youths who were Inexperienced In such matters, and In their excitement or In a spirit of bravado forgot all about price limits and went sky high. The successful bidder, if such "he can be, termed, represented William "Brown, of Salem. The price paid was, of course, gratifying to the 'growers, but It Is not likely to be duplicated unless the East rrn mohair market suddenly Improves, wfilch it showa no signs at present of doing. The Eddyville price will have no effect at all on the offers that dealers will make at the larger sales. While some trading has been done already In small lota In various sec lions at prices running from 27 to 2J cents. It is possible that the Dallas pool may bring SO cents today. Within a fraction of that prices was paid atCottage Grove yesterday. Pool Sale at Cottage Grove. COTTAGE. OROVE. Or.. April 12. (Spe cial.) About 12.000 pounds of mohair wa sold here today for 29 Lift cents per pound. Currln & Veatch were the purchasers. The hair was pooled by a number of farmers. OrEXING CANNED SALMON TRICES. Advance Is Probable, Notwithstanding Ex pected Increase In Output. The buying prices for raw fish, fixed by the salmon packers at Astoria Wednesday, would Indicate that the opening prices on canned salmon would be advanced over last year, though nothing was done at the meet ing toward setting the price. The situation in the falmon trade generally would Justify an increase, notwithstanding the probability of a greater output on the Columbia this year. It Is believed that the new price on halves will be fixed at $1. against 00 cents last year, that tails will sell at 11.30, against $1.45 last year, and flats at $1.65, as com pared with $1.63. A large part, and perhaps all. of the com ing pack has already been wold, subject to the opening prices. One packer has sold ahead more than he can possibly pack, and others have orders for double what they turned out last season. The salmon season will open at noon. April 10. Everything points to a large and early run. Many fieh have been seen In the lower river In the last few days. Indicating that the run ha already started in a satisfactory manner. The eartlness of the Spring freshet is a favorable factor, as the fish seem to scent the fresh water far out at sa. In 1S&4, as will probably be the case this year, the nh came ahead of time, the big run being early In May. and they had reached The Dalles by June. The canneries that were represented, at the A-Uorla meeting Wednesday were the Union Fishermen's Co-operative Packing Com pany. Tallant-Grant Packing Company. Co lumbia River Packers Association. Sanborn Cutting Packing Company. S. Schmidt & Co., A Booth & Co.. P. J. McGowan & Sons. A!- toona Packing Company, J. G. Megler & Co.. F. M. Warren Packing Company and J. Llnd- enberger Company. TLKNTY OF FRUIT COMING. Several Cars of Oranges Nearly Due, but Prompt Sale Is Assured. There were no carlot arrivals of fruit or vegetables yesterday and Frout street had barren appearance. Two ears of oranges are due today, one on Saturday and one on Sun day. The earlier receipts have been sold to arrive. A car of bananas is due today, and three more on Mondsy. There Is wmw difference of opinion In Southern Oregon aa to the apple propels Us ere. Comsat! oer Crn my the - trict -will have 86 -per cent of xeamtl P. while sows or the largest orcSiardlsta rop Ashland and Medford write that their orch ards will produce practically otalsc. A. letter from Sacrasaento says that every thing In the vegetable and trait line -will fee very, late In that section on account of rain. Another letter states that the Sacramento peach crop -will be a. failure. CUTTING BUTTER PRICES. Several Cky Creameries Make 30-Cea Offers. Eggs Firm. Three of the city creameries were report ed yesterday to be offering' their best grades of butter at 20 cents. Tbe same price was quoted In the majority of cases oa Front street, though In other quarters of tbe com- mleelon and city creamery trade, 22" cents was quoted. .Eggs were firm on a strong local and ship ping demand, and 17 cents was the usual quo tation. If. as was raid to be the case, the brisk inquiry was due only to the Easter trade, a cessation of the outside demand can be expected today and a falling off in the local movement tomorrow. The trade la, therefore, beginning to talk low price again. and some predictions are being made of a 15-ccnt market in the. near future. Tbe supply of poultry yesterday was under the demand and firm prices ruled. ADVANCE IN WHEAT. Local Market Rcppeads ip the Flurry la tne xasx. In response to the sharp advance in East ern wheat markets yesterday, local dealers put their prices up, quoting club at 6? and blueetera at 69 and 70 cents. Otherwise the market was quiet, an very little grain was offered by farmers. A. few small export orders for Goer en couraged shippers to hope that buyers on the other side of the Pacific are beglnnlac to wake up. Ae one reason for the slowness of the Japanese has been their expectation that still lower prices would prevail. It Is thought likely that the upward tendency lately mani fested in the world's wheat markets will put them In a mood to add to their stocks of flour. - Bask Clearings. THrEC ICcquircnicntM Confront the New York 3Ioncy Market, Slock Prices Easy. NEW TOr.lv. April 12. Today's money market did not fulfill the promise held out by tbe violent relapse ia rates yemrcay. caused by the news of the heavy engagements of gold for Import. "With call loans open lag at 10 per cent and large amount lending near that rate, yesterday's view o! the ex tent of the relief afforded by the gold en gagement vu modified, although the money rate ran off later. A considerable relief from the stringency before existing was obvious. and there was no sign of pressure of liquid tlon In the stock market. There was an equal lack of any aggressive Initiative towards speculative accumulation of alack ot tempi to advance prices. Notable strength was limited to a few Individual stocks, aad tbe movement was halting and Irregular. The Imprrattloa was given that relief from the stringency In the money market secured from the engsgemeni of gold In the London market was designed for other purposes than to fctr a renewal or epeculatlve activity In stocks. Various requirements confront the money market, and a considerable part of the temporary borrowing which have been go ing on are known to be for the purpose of deferring the flotation or obligations of a more permanent character. There fell due today a 25 per cent Installment of subscrip tions to aa issue of some $17.000. CO of Atch ison convertible bonds, tbe houses calling for upward of S4.000.000. On Monday, a 10 per cent Instalment fall due on subscriptions to $100,000,009 of Amrrican Telephone con vertible bond, thw calling foe $10.0CO.C-.o. U I understood that the New York City government, which borrowed $5.'C00.tO3 last week for a period of a week, rather than mar ket bonds on the high Interest basts, acces sary at that time, ha placed Ita boada for half the amount oa satisfactory terms, but has borrowed the other half again for a short term.
