Plympton, a resident ,of Portland for the past 26 years, was held yesterday afternoon from the Hassalo Etreet Congregational Church, of which he had been a prominent member since he came to Portland. A very touching service was conducted, and a large audience was present. Many beautiful tributes were re ceived and placed on the casket. Rev. Charles E. Chase, present pastor, assisted by Rev. Daniel Staver. of .Forest Grove, conducted the services. His work in the church, of which he had been a constant official member from the timo he came to Portland, was set forth by the pastors, and his blameless life was held up as an example worthy of emulation. At the close the interment took place In Lone Fir Cemetery. Committee Meeting. The general meet ing of the committee on passenger and freight depot for the East Side will hold an important meeting this afternoon at 4 o'clock In the East Portland Justice courtroom, corner Union avenue and East Washington street. A report of the special jconmittee on statistics relative to the amount of freight shipped and passengers that would be affected by such depot will submit a report. It Ls expected that steps will be taken also to examine the records of the old East Portland city gov ernment to ascertain exactly the condi tions of the vacation of streets for the Southern Pacific and the ordinance under which the company has its franchise. It is not intended to use these records as a club if the company will meet the people half way in their request. Assisted to Het.p Himself. Martin Maher, who was recently badly injured by accident at the Douglas sawmill at St. Johns, has been put in the way to make a living for himself and family. R. posts are considering where would be the best and most appropriate place for holding the general reception to National visit Portland in July. Several of the speakers at the campfire in Sellwood Park Thursday night urged that Sellwood Park would be best, as it is the general camping place for the visiting veterans. Vetoes Punch Bowl Ordinance. Mayor "Williams yesterday vetoed the ordinance passed by the City Council on Monday, appropriating $103 to pay for a punch, bowl and tumblers supposed to have been presented to him by the body. It appears that members of the Council have since paid the money out of their own pockets, and the affair Is now a closed incident. Gave Militart Drama. Last night the Lewis and Clark Stock Company rendered a pleasing military drama In five acts in Secred Heart Parish Hall. Milwaukle and Caywood streets. There was an excel lent turn out. and the proceeds will be used for the benefit of the church, and specially for the sanctuary and altar. Noted Speakers. Mrs. Charlotte P. The inter ment of Fred Smith, who died at his home at 674- Mississippi avenue. Alblna. June 27, took place at Brownsville, his lormer home, yesterday.
