Financier Believes Men Return Tired Out Instead of Recuperated. NEW YORK, June Z In -an article under the caption, "The Injustice of Va cations." the Independent quotes Russell Sage to the effect that he never has taken a vacation in his life; that the "vacation habit is the outgrowth of ab normal or distorted business methods, and that a man is Jess fitted to do good -work for his employer after two weeks' rest each year than he was before. "When I was a boy," said the veteran financier, "the practice was not in vogue. During the 83 years of my ca reer, I have not once taken a vacation. As a matter of fact, I was so glad to get a chance to learn business that the idea of asking my employer to make me a present of two weeks of the time that belonged to him wpuld have been prepos terous. Besides, I was eager to advance in business. "Is it not absurd to suppose that a man can in two weeks recuperate from the weariness of ayear's work? On the contrary, I have too often observed that men will, while on their vacations, mako inroads upon their vitality and purses that cannot be repaired In the following 11 months and two weeks. "A man should work 'easy be econom ical of his time, conserve his forces and not worry. It Is worry and not work that makes tne hair gray. If I had 1000 tongues I would preach 'Save time' with them all. It's infinitely more valuable than money." NEW WAY TO MAKE STEEL. Trust Official Expects Greatly to Re duce Cost of Manufacture. NEW YORK, June 2. Steel and Iron men throughout the world will be Inter ested to learn, according to the Herald, that James Gayley, vice-president of the United States Steel Corporation, after a long series of experiments, has practical ly perfected a new process for making steftl -which he believes will greatly re duce the cost of manufacture. For years Mr. Gayley has been work ing upon the process, and has now In formed his friends that his experiments, conducted at the Isabella furnaces', in the Pittsburg district, have Indicated that the new method will prove a practical suc cess. It is understood that they have re sulted In reducing the moisture of the air applied in the converting of the ore to pig iron and steel. Other new features have also been Introduced. Briefly etated. the Gayley process Iff a modification of the Bessemer process, which revolutionized, the iron and steel industry. The process will be applied in the manner of pig iron as well as steel. It is understood the process will greatly cheapen the cost of production. ace Suicide Due to Flats. 'S, June 2.
