'Jft Three of Portland's School Teachers Will Be Sent to the St Louis Exposition With ALL EXPENSES PAID BY THIS HOUSE Realizing that from an educational standpoint the St. Louis Exposition will present the grandest object lesson the world has ever witnessed and that, as compared with all previous expositions of a similar character it will be as a giant Colossus of Rhodes to a tiny midget as Chicago of '93 was to Philadelphia of '76 illustrating as it does to the very life the world's mighty progress in the Arts, Sciences, Discover ies and Inventions during a decade since the Columbian Exposition, we feel that a knowledge of this tremendous development is most important in suggesting what may be done in the future. Such knowledge is most important to those directly en- jjb o-ao-ed in educational work. Since Portland has been chosen as a site for the sreat Vvv Lewis and Clark Exposition of 1905, her educators, of all others, can appreciate such practical knowledge as may be gathered by a personal visit to the great Fair at St. Louis this -Summer. Every civilized Nation presents her best, every exhibit may be seen in its grandest perfection and descriptions given by the most competent in structors. Knowledge gathered in person must be correct and complete and will be of greatest value to Portland if disseminated thro' her schools. As a home (Portland) institution, deeply interested in her every success, and especially that of her own coming Lewis and Clark Exposition, WE HAVE PLANNED TO SEND TO ST. LOUIS THREE TEACHERS PROM PORTLAND SCHOOLS AT OUR EXPENSE. THESE THREE TEACHERS TO BE CHOSEN BY THE PEOPLE BY POPULAR VOTE STARTING- MONDAY MORNING- NEXT, MAY 16, we shall give with every purchase amounting to 25c, a coupon with place for name of teacher and school over which he or she presides. Ballot boxes will be conveniently placed on every floor, near the entrances, three on the first floor and one each on each upper floor; pencils will be provided. Upon these slips you may write the name of your favorite teacher whom you would prefer enjoying the trip, and drop the slip into the ballot boxes provided. Each day they will be counted and the count verified by a represen tative of one of the Portland newspapers, the result will be announced daily in our ad vertisements UNTIL THE CONTEST CLOSES AT 6 P. M. OF SATURDAY, AUG. 6, when the account will be again verified by a committee of prominent citizens and the award made to the three-whose names have received most votes. The trip includes first-class tickets with Pullman sleener both ways, ex penses at first-class hotel for ten days and entrance tickets to Exposition grounds ) fnr .pti Hjwts.
