July 7. At the opening, wheat was sold freely on the eood weather of the day when the board was closed. The stuff seemed to come from all sources, SL Louis In terests being prominent. Under this pressure, the price of September went from 7373V4c the high point at the opening, to 7214c Hero tho pressure of tho fellers eased up, and the market held steady for a time. Later, reports of genrral rains In the "West stirred up ex citement, and shorts ran the market up to 74c Tho close was Arm, 6c over Thursday's clase, at 73,c t There was heavy selling of September corn early on the Improvement In the weather map. "VVhllb this operation was weak, howover. May and December were firm. September sold be tween Clc andC2jc, and closed c up, at 62Uc July opened unchanged to l,ic up, at 77(H79,4.c. and closed 7c up. at 84c Oats were "tick" early, getting 5il$4c un-J der Thursday, but the far months recovered late In the day on the corn strength and pre dicted showers. July closed lc lower, in sym pathy with a drop In cash prices. Opening trades were over a wide ranee, and while the flurry lasted, sellltur was carried on with a niBh. This was due chiefly to the Improved weather of Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The rains today and yesterday, with predic tions of more, caused buylnr later, and a llt tlo recover', shorts coming In freely. The -easiness of the cash market, however, worked against such advances as were scored In wheat and corn. September sold between 3414c and S3Jc, and closed unchanged at 34c Re ceipts were 180 cars for three days. The ieadlng futu-ea ranged as fallows: "WHEAT. Opening. Highest. Lowest. Closing, day which had bben running since last Thura-, day. Tho "European market was quiet ,but' steady, with a slight advenes In optlons'and. In the lack of any news of Importance la the cables, local exporters generally put out about the same limits as have been named for the past week or ten days. Very little wheat Is selling at Quotations, and It would require a substantial Increase over the figures named to move much wheat. However, with no press ing tonnage engagements to meet, exporters are Inclined to lay back and await the new season in preference to forcing matters by bidding above export values. The mills are not doing very much business, and accordingly refrain from bidding much over export figures unless they are forced to do so on special business. The freight situation Is unchanged, wlth the en route list steadily growing. Wheat Nominal; Walla Walla, toe; Valley, C0!4C7c; bluestem, 07GSc Barley Feed, $22; brewing. $23 per ton. NEW YORK. July 7. Thero was little done In the stock market today In the way of buying and ee'llnff. Most of the professional traders took the precaution to close up their commit ments last Thursday afternoon, In view ofxthe possibility of unexpected developments over the three-days holiday, and there, was not much Inclination apparent today to make new ventures. The developments in regard to the crops were considered favorable. The weekly statistics of railroad traffic were also promising for a continuance of large earnings. The move ment of miscellaneous freight westward Is said to be maintained on an unprecedented scale; and rates to be held firmly. The so-called local traffic, too, which Is so Important & factor In the aggregate In the prosperity of railroads. Is reported as unusually large and varied. The crop news mado grain-carrying railroads prominent. The most conspicuous movements were in stocks associated with the Interests that make, up the so-called Western contingent. Rock Island made a sensational Jump of 54 points. The closing was heavy, and showed all of the animation gono 6ut of tho market. The hugging of tho gold export point by for eign exchange, and the Interior demand for currency which sprang up over the holiday, were repressive Influences, which wero rein forced by a poor bank statement.
