Trace - WEATHER CONDITIONS. Heavy enow has lallen during the last 24 hours In the Sound country, and moderately heavy snow has fallen In Eastern Washington, Oregon and Idaho. It has become much colder In Washington, Northern Oregon and North ern Idaho, and the cold weather will spread into Southern Oregon and Southern Idaho Sat urday. Tne following are the lowest temperatures reported Friday: Seattle. 22 degrees; Portland. 24. Spokane 4; Walla Walla, 14, and Baker City, 10 degrees. A maximum wind velocity of 30 miles, from the northeast, occurred at Astoria about 10 A. II. Friday, and at Seattle the unusually high velocity of 40 mile, from the northwest, was reported at about' the same time. The Indications are for continued cold weath er In this district for two or three days, with light snowfalls, In Oregon and Eastern Wash ington, and probably heavy Enow In Southern Idaho. WEATHER FORECASTS. Forecasts made at Portland for the 28 hours ending at midnight Saturday. January 25: Portland and vicinity Light snow and con tinued cold weather; northerly winds. Oregon - Light snow and continued cold weather; brisk to high northerly winds. Washington Probably fair In the west, light enow In the east portion; continued cold; brisk to high northerly winds. Gold Find In Slontnna. PONY, Mont., Jan. 24. Rich gold finds in the west end of the Norwegian dis trict, about 25 miles from this place, have caused a stampede to the scene of the discovery. About 20 claims have already been located, and the country Is swarm ing with prospectors. Every piece of quartz found there will pan gold, and numberless pieces are found filled -with the yellow metal. It is stated that one man with a team and wagon can make $23 a day picking up the rock found on the surface.
