Omaha's Snd Experience. Chicago Tribune. Omaha has now 102,535 Inhabitants. In 1890 It was credited with 140,452. This apparent loss of 37,897 people in the dec ade Is a sad blow for an ambitious city. The -only way in which Omaha can break the force of that blow Is to plead that the returns for JE90 were padded. That has been suspected. The real estate boom in that city collapsed in 18S7 with serious consequences to its prosperity. It may well be that In order to create the Im pression that the consequences were not so serious the census enumerators were ponsuaded to amplify their figures. That was unnecessary, because in 1E80 Omaha had only 30,618 inhabitants and would have made a pood showing had It been credited with but 75,000 or 80.000 10 years later. Had that been done there would not have been thia humiliating and un exampled slump in population. Distressed citizens of Omaha are Insisting: that the city must have at leant 123,000 people, ac cording to 'the common rules for com putation" the number of school children etc. Their arguments and protestations cannot change one figure in the official census returns. In 1SS7 Omaha had a sad real estate panic. In 3837 It had an ex position, the after effects of which may not have been good for the city. All things considered, the Omaha returns seem to be pretty near the truth. AMUSEMENTS. ALISKY'S WINTER GARDEN. ALISKY'S WINTER GARDEN. ALISKY'S WINTER GARDEN. THIRD AND MORRISON STS.
