"WEATHER SYNOPSIS.
Remarkably mild 'weather prevails over the
whole Pacific slope, and also Montana. The
maximum temperature today at Seattle. Walla
Walla, Portland and Roseburg was CO deg.; at
Red Bluff It -was 70 deg. Rain has fallen today
only on the Washington coast, and clear or
only partly cloudy -weather has generally pre
vailed. This is due to the high-pressure area of
wide extent that reaches from the Pacific coast
to the Missouri river, being central In Idaho.
A fall in pressure along the coast indicates
the approach of a low from the ocean, and there
"will be rain Thursday west of the Cascades.
The river reached a stage of 16.7 feet at
Portland, and remained stationary. Albany re
ported 17.3 feet, a fall of 5 feet In 24 hours.
It la expected ths. after Thursday the river at
Portland will fall slowly.

of Jan. 31, 1900, for furnishing and deliver
ing at the school twenty milch cows and two
work horses, of the following specifications:
All animals must have been born and bred
north of the south line of the state of Kansas.
Milch cows must be good, well-bred, native
American cattle, grade .Durham preferred,
not under 2 nor over 4 years old. Horses must
be between 5 and 8 years old, free from blem
ishes, well broken to harness and matched In
gait, sound and gentle In every respect, and
weigh not less than 1000 pounds each. All
animals offered will be subject to a "rigid in
spection. The right is reserved to reject any
and all bids, or any part of any bid, if
deemed for the best interests of the service.

panied by a certified check or draft upon some
United States depository or solvent national
bank, made payable to the order of the com
missioner of Indian affairs, for at least five
