Pauperism in London.
On Dec. 31, 1001, there were In Lon
don, England, 107,708 paupers who
were In receipt of relief. This totnl.
which Includes 03.297 Indoor and 30.471
outdoor paupers, compares with re
turns of 104,305 and 104.744 and 103,t
001 for the corresponding weeks of the
three preceding years. There were
also 1,003 vagrants, consisting of 825
men, 107 women, and 11 children, who
on that same day received temporary
relief.
Mr. A. D. Grlmn, editor of tho New
Age, Is a hustler, ho has only made
two business trips to Tacoma and ho
has secured flvo columns of display
advertisements and established an
agency with a paid circulation of one
hundred. This is certainly a credit
