He was 69 years old. Dennis was born March 30, 1950, in Hood River to James Carl Carter and Pearl Max- ine (Swyers) Carter. Den- nis attend- ed school in Odell, where he graduated from Wy’east High School in 1968. Dennis’ love for the Dennis Carter woods started at the young age of 9, going to work with his father, spending his summers logging for the family business until he graduated from high school. He later became part owner of JC Logging Company. Dennis met Diane Claxton in the summer of 1967; they married in February 1968. Dennis and Diane had three children, sons Dennis Carl and Jeremy Todd and daughter Cami Michelle. They enjoyed family vacations, skiing, and bowling. In 1985, Dennis mar- ried Tracy Schultz, who had a daughter, Jaime Michelle, and in 1986 their daughter, Ashley Kay, was born. Dennis is survived by his sisters, Susan Schreiter and her husband Larry of Lake Os- wego, Ore., Kay Sheirbon and her husband Joe of Hood River, and Janice Carter Claxton of Hood River; sons, Dennis Carl and Jeremy Todd; daughters, Cami Michelle, Jaime Michelle and Ashley Kay Streich (and husband, Hup Jr.); his dog, Pearl; eight grandkids, three great-grandkids, four neph- ews, two nieces, and many great-nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Maxine Carter; baby sister, Wendy Fay; brother-in-law, Frank Claxton; nephew, Larry Schreiter Jr.; and best friend Jr. Irvin Good- night (Goodday). “We love you Dad.” A celebration of life with potluck reception in the Com- munity Building at Hood River Fairgrounds will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 (3020 Wy’east Road, Hood River). Agustin Garcia Muñoz Agustin “TaTin” Garcia Muñoz passed away surround- ed by family on Jan. 16, 2020, at Portland Providence Medi- cal Center in Portland, Ore. Agustin was born on Aug. 28, 1938, to parents Pablo Garcia and Maria Arca- dia Muñoz in Jalisco, Mex- ico. He was raised and educated in Mexico. Agus- tin was 81 years young at the time of his passing. Agustin Muñoz He married Teresa Garcia in 1966 and they were married for 37 years. The couple had two sons, Juan and Guadalupe. Teresa, their stillborn daugh- ter and Guadalupe preceded Agustin in death. Agustin moved to Hood River in 1970. He worked for Dick Goe and was a 17-year loyal employee of Duckwall Fruit. He catered many festiv- ities and was known around town for his amazing carnitas. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Teresa Garcia; son Guadalupe Garcia; his daughter; brothers Chon Garcia and Refujio Garcia; and sister Maria De Jesus. He is survived by his sons Juan Garcia, Agustin Garcia and Israel Garcia; daughter Linda Garcia; granddaughter Katrina Garcia-Chubb; sisters Maria Guadalupe Garcia, Maria En- riquez and Victoria Garcia; brothers Jose Garcia, Antonio Garcia and Pablo Garcia; and many nieces and nephews. Shirley Andres Floyd Eugene Miller passed away on Jan. 14, 2020, at his home in The Dalles, Ore. Floyd was born on Sept. 23, 1941, and was 78 years of age at the time of his passing. McCullough, age 73, a resident of Moro, Ore., passed away Jan. 15, 2020. Services are pending, and will be published on the Spencer, Libby & Powell website once it is finalized. Civil Air Patrol open house Feb. 4 at HR airport Civil Air Patrol will host an open house for students ages 12-18, senior members ages 19 and over and pilots interested in learning more about the Gorge Composite Squadron in Hood River on Tuesday, Feb. 4 from 7-9 p.m. at he Hood River Airport. The event is free. Civil Air Patrol is an all-vol- unteer auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force that focuses on three primary missions: Emergency response, diverse aviation and ground services, and youth development, said a press release. At the open house, partici- pants will find out more how the Cadet Program can help them learn about a career in aviation and space, cyber secu- rity, search and rescue, or the military. Pilots can learn about flying the Cessna 172S G1000 Nav III assigned to Gorge CAP. ■ Regular Civil Air Patrol meetings are Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. at the Hood River Airport. Harry Schultz Harry Schultz was born on a farm in Dodge County, Neb., to Otto and Amelia Schultz. He joined brothers Bill, Albert, Earl, Clarence and Leroy and sister Ida. He later was bless- ed with two sisters, Rose and Norma. During the Depression at the age of 17, Harry enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Blaire, Neb. His company eventually was located in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He shared many memories of these times with family and friends. After his CCC enlistment, he returned home to his fam- ily in Hooper, Neb., where he worked jobs as he found them. With the outset of World War II, he joined the Marine Corps. After Basic Training in San Diego, he was shipped over- seas and joined the 1st Battal- ion 6th Marines, 2nd Division. Harry served in the Asiat- ic-Pacific theater where he saw action in Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian. He was the recipient of two purple-hearts, unit citations, along with other service medals. He was even- tually sent back to the United States where he was hospital- ized at the Naval Hospital in Norman, Okla., from where he was medically discharged in June of 1945. He returned home and found a job working as a mechanic. At that time, he happened to meet his future spouse Lorinda. They married in September 1946 and moved to Sumner, Neb., where he worked as an assistant manag- er for Joyce Lumber Company. They then moved to Kearney, Neb., where Harry enrolled in college. During that time, Harry and Lorinda were bless- ed with their first child, Jim. When Harry graduated with a Bachelors degree in Manual Studies and Biology, he took a teaching job in Nebraska City. While in Nebraska City, Harry and Lorinda had their daugh- ter, Beverly. After a few years of teaching, Harry then decided to move to Washington and settled in Bingen, where he built his first house. He joined the Carpen- ters Union for a short time, before being hired at SDS Lum- ber as a truck and equipment mechanic. Soon afterwards, he bought property out of White Salmon, in the Pucker Hud- dle neighborhood, where he began construction of another house. In 1954, Harry and Lorinda’s second son, Ron, was born. Harry was then tasked by the owners of SDS to oversee the design and construction of their new plywood plant to be later named “Bingen Ply- wood.” Harry worked for SDS/ Bingen Plywood for 31 years as the maintenance and green end superintendent until his retirement. In 1963, Harry and Lorinda were blessed with another son, Rob. During Harry’s spare time, he loved to hunt and fish as this area he always said was “ripe for the picking.” He es- pecially loved being outdoors pursuing those activities with friends Orville Knutson, Oscar (Curly) Crone, Dean Anderson and Bob Garwood. He man- aged to find the time to build another house, which they moved into in 1973, where they resided until the fall of 2019, when he and Lorinda moved to Hood River. In addition to hunting and fishing, Harry loved wood- working, gardening, and had a passion for flying. Harry soloed on his 60th birthday, he owned a 1946 Taylorcraft BC-12D and enjoyed attending fly-ins with family and friends. In 1985, he flew to Oshkosh, Wisc., with his friend Del Kendrick of Lyle. The flight took three days each way. Harry and Lorinda were active in their church, where they attended faithfully until health issues decided other- wise. Harry passed away at a hos- pital in Portland, Ore., on Jan. 13, 2020, at the age of 99 years and 4 months. He was preceeded in death by his parents and all of his siblings. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Lorinda, son Jim and wife Joyce, daughter Bev- erly, son Ron and wife Joyce, and son Rob and wife Robyn. Also surviving Harry are eight grandchildren, 10 great-grand- children, and one great-great grandchild. He was always a mentor to his family, and was there for any construction projects they might have. A memorial service for Harry will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hood River.
