Bisbee, Parkhurst’s activities coordinator, travels to this week Chicago, where she is in line to win the national Enlivant MVV award. “Besides her commitment to community is her sincere compassion for the rseidents,” said Parkhurst Executive Director Tim Dufour, center. At left is Community Relations Manager Terri Hansen. “I see her every day engaging with a resident in need, and the way to describe it is God-driven. Those are the things that carry our values and you were recognized for that and your community outreach,” he said. “I’m very proud of her to get to this point — there are the east, central and west conferences and she was chosen to be the one person from west divison,” which totals hun- dreds of employees in 47 facilities. Her cousin and co-worker, Lead Medications Aide Laticia Bisbee, accompanied her to Chicago. Comments sought for East Fork Irrigation project Advancements in irrigation efficiency are on the horizon for farmers and orchardists in East Fork Irrigation District pending the completion of a federal environmental plan- ning process that began in October 2018. The USDA Natural Re- sources Conservation Service (NRCS) has reviewed the po- tential impacts of the East Fork Irrigation District Infrastruc- ture Modernization Project and released a Draft Watershed Plan-Environmental Assess- ment (Draft Plan-EA) on Jan. 8. East Fork Irrigation District proposes to pipe 56 miles of dis- trict-owned canals and laterals to conserve water, reduce energy use, improve operational efficien- cies, increase public safety, and enhance fish and wildlife habitat in the Hood River Watershed. By converting open-ditch irrigation canals into under- ground, closed-pipe systems, the proposed East Fork Irri- gation District Infrastructure Modernization Project would eliminate water losses from end spills, saving an estimated 16.6 cubic feet per second, or 5,287 acre-feet annually, said a press release. The project is sponsored by the East Fork Irrigation District, with funding and technical support from NRCS, in coop- eration with Bonneville Power Administration, Energy Trust of Oregon, Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, Hood River Watershed Group and Farmers Conservation Alliance. NRCS and project partners will host a public meeting Jan. 29 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. to dis- cuss the Draft Plan-EA, answer questions about the project, and collect public comments during a breakout session. The meeting will be hosted at the Pine Grove Grange, 2835 Van Horn Drive, Hood River. This event is part of pFriem’s fundraiser series that highlights and supports local non-profits in the com- munity. All drinks purchased during the event in the pFriem library will be donated to the Hood River County Library Foundation. Half of all beer- to-go sales (bottles, growlers, or crowlers) placed at the event will also be donated. There is a suggested dona- tion of $10 per person to play trivia.
