The July 20 Columbia Gorge Patient and
Clinician Engagement (PaCE) Symposium

viduals interested in being a part of health re-
search in the Gorge region.
The event goes from 5:30-8 p.m. at Mid-Co-
lumbia Fire and Rescue, 1400 W. 8th St., The
Dalles.
If you are interested in attending call
Kitsy Stanley at 541-490-3836 or
email sarna@ohsu.edu

MD (Research Network director and clinician);
Susan Lowe (research network governing
board member and patient advocate); Melinda
Davis, PhD (research network principal Inves-
tigator and OHSU researcher).
This is one of the first of several PaCE Sym-
posiums that will occur this year around the
country. PaCE brings together community
members, clinicians, and researchers to learn
more about primary care research, policy, and
engagement. PaCE aims to get more commu-
nity members and partners involved in health
research. The symposiums are designed for a
small-group environment with time to learn,
ask questions, think, and have fun, according
to Stanley.
Light food will be provided.
Topics covered will include:
■ What is primary care research & advoca-
cy?
■ Training on how to develop research ques-
tions
■ Opportunities to get involved in health re-
search

SAFE KIDS now operates a mobile trailer, which sports a life-size diagram and measuring
stick painted to determine each child’s height and if a booster seat is needed.
Car seat checks offered Saturday
Are you using the right car safety seat?
Are you putting your child in the seat
correctly?
Get these questions answered, and
more, July 18, from 2-4 p.m. at the Hood
River Fire and EMS building, Ty Taylor
Station, 1785 Meyer Parkway, located next
to the Hood River pool at 17th and May
streets.
No appointment is necessary; plan 30-45
minutes for each check.
Find out if your car safety seat is in-
stalled correctly, and if your child should
be in a booster seat. Certified Child Pas-
senger Safety Technicians are available to
help, according to Elizabeth Stillwell, Safe
Kids Columbia Gorge Child Passenger
Safety Technician/Instructor. Safe Kids of
the Gorge is part of Oregon Safe Kids, and
serves Hood River, Sherman and Wasco
counties in Oregon or Klickitat County in
Washington, in association with Hood
River County Prevention Program
Look for the bright yellow trailer embla-
zoned with “Booster Seats: A Tall Order”.
The trailer was refurbished by Fix Auto of
The Dalles, who removed the old decals
and painted the trailer, and Rage Graphic,
who did the decals.
Stillwell said that anyone who cannot
make it to the event may go to safekid-
scolumbiagorge.com and send an email to
set up an appointment to get their car seat
inspected.
Event sponsors are Hood River Fire and
EMS, ODOT Transportation Safety Divi-
sion and Randall Children’s Hospital.
Tim Gibbons, the Dallesport Base Man-
ager and pilot will have a table set up at the
event to inform people about Life Flight.
