play CG Bluegrass
Festival July 23-26
2015 marks the 32nd an-
niversary of the Columbia
Gorge Bluegrass Festival,
and the celebration boasts
some of the biggest stars in
bluegrass: Sierra Hull, Lau-
rie Lewis & the Right Hands,
Jeff Scroggins & Colorado.
They join The Caleb Klauder
Country Band, the Down-
town Mountain Boys, North
Country Bluegrass and Jim
Faddis with Farmstrong be-
ginning July 23-26 when the
event hits the Skamania
County Fairg rounds in
scenic Stevenson, Wash.
Look for the 2015 Show to
carry on the traditions that
make this festival one of the
best bluegrass events in the
Northwest. The Festival offi-
cially kicks off with the fan-
favorite Jammers Jamboree
on Thursday night. The
evening features great talent
on the stage and sweet spe-
cials in the beer and wine
garden, too.
The good times continue
with nightly dances and a
stellar gospel show on Sun-
day. Festival guests have the
opportunity to participate in
the annual Instrument Con-
test, Band Scramble, work-
shops for all ages including
the Chick Rose Kid’s Acade-
my, and plenty of jamming
throughout.
Visitors will be treated to
an assortment of fine craft
and music related booths, de-
licious food, and micro brew
beers presented by Laginitas
Brewing Company.
This year, we welcome
back the Columbia Gorge
Fiddle Contest, to be held on
the Fairgrounds in conjunc-
tion with the Festival. The
activities commence Thurs-
day, July 23, with a series of
workshops, continued by the
competition July 24-25. Reg-
istration and event details
can found on Facebook or at
www.twinfiddle produc-
tions.com
Recent studies demon-
strate a link between early
music education and a high-
er level of life-long learning
skills. The Festival wishes to
strengthen this bond and
offer thanks to their support-
ive community by continu-
ing to offer a portion of their
sponsorship funding to the
Stevenson High School Band
program.
The Festival is generously
sponsored by Skamania
County, The City of Steven-
son, Skamania Lodge, Sub-
way, Eastman Guitars, Lagu-
nitas Brewing and Avista.
As the event is underwritten
by the Skamania County
Fair Board, and held on the
Skamania County Fair-
grounds, Skamania County
residents are invited to pur-
chase a “Gorge Special” pass
at the Skamania County
Chamber of Commerce, on
sale now.
THE COLUMBIAIRES singing group
performs “Blue Moon,” among other
American folk, spiritual and pop stan-
dards during “Independence Eve,” a
first-of-of-its kind event held July 3 at
Bingen Theater in Bingen. About 125
listened in the theater as Radio Tierra
(95.1 FM) broadcast the two-hour
show live. Heidi Venture, right, of The
Next Door Inc. thanks the audience for
donations and encourages people to
consider being a foster parent to
teenagers via Oregon Trail Transitional
services.
