A6 Hood River News, Wednesday, July 1, 2015 O bituaries Paid notices Ford Franks Clarence Ford Franks, 95, of Odell, passed peacefully Sunday, June 21, 2015, while surrounded by family, at P r ov i d e n c e H o o d R ive r Memorial Hospital in Hood River, Ore. Ford was born in Texas and moved with his parents to San Francisco in 1940. During World War II, Ford served his country as a B-17 pilot and re- tired from the Air Force with the rank of m a j o r. H e ear ned a Bachelor of Education degree from the Universi- ty of San F r a n c i s c o Ford Franks and Master of Education degree from USC. However, he remained loyal to the Texas Long- horns throughout his life. Ford married his first wife, Kay, in San Francisco in 1948. In 1958 Ford moved his family to Parkdale, Ore., and took a teaching posi- tion at the Parkdale Ele- mentary School. He served as the fourth grade teacher and principal for many years before transferring to Mid Valley to finish his ca- reer. He taught school in the Hood River County School District for 33 years. Ford was loved by his students and in his retired years, he enjoyed reviewing class pic- tures and telling us stories from his many years as principal and teacher. He married our beloved Nana, Kathy Gar ner, in 1971. They enjoyed 44 years together and sharing their faith and commitment to family. Ford was a faithful husband and a caring and loving father and grandfa- ther. His family was the cen- ter of his life and he and Kathy loved having their girls and g randchildren visit. Life was rarely confusing for this Texan. He read his Bible regularly and based his decisions on the wisdom a n d g u i d a n c e h e fo u n d there. He walked through his life quietly, living what he believed. The gentle, strong, humorous, wise man you knew in public was the same man we knew at home – his integrity and character never faltered; his word was his bond. He enjoyed nature, reading, teaching and gathering at Gehrig’s Chevron to discuss politics. Ford is preceded in death by his son Kenneth and his first wife, Kay. PET OF THE WEEK Joonie is ‘ready for cuddles’ This week volunteers at Adopt A Dog have selected Joonie as the program’s adoptable pet of the week: Joonie is SUCH a sweet little girl! She’s a Chi- huahua ... maybe a little something else in there? And she’s so nice! Okay, so maybe she doesn’t like the camera, but once that busi- ness is put away, she really is a happy, tail wagging girl! We think she’s about 2 to 3 years old. Joonie was ter- r i f i e d wh e n s h e f i r s t showed up at the shelter, but she was always willing to trust and see if we were OK. And now she eagerly comes up to us and is ready for cuddles and playtime! She has that look in her eyes that just tugs at your heart strings! Joonie is great on walks, Joonie but eve n better on laps! She’s calm and affec- tionate, great with other dogs, although the big ones sometimes are too active for her. But she’s still just happy to find a cozy place and watch the action from afar. Joonie is current on shots, microchipped and will be spayed this week. The adoption fee for Joonie is $195. The fee to adopt is charged to recoup standard veterinary expenses. Since many of our dogs are in fos- ter, please call ahead to meet sweet Joonie girl in Odell at the Hukari Animal Shelter, 3910 Heron Drive, or call for more information at 541-354-1083. Adoption hours are Wedensday, 5-7 p.m. and Saturday, 9-11 a.m. You can fill out an applica- tion online at our website, www.hoodriveradoptadog.o rg, or download and scan and email to us at adopta- dog@gorge.net, or fax it in to 1-877-833-7166. We offer 24PetWatch microchips, which include free registra- tion into the 24PetWatch pet recovery service. For more infor mation visit www.24petwatch.com or call 1-866-597-2424.
