G ET R EADY F OR ‘ SHREK ’
Wy’east Middle School students rehearse the musical “Shrek,”
about an ogre who finds true love and friendship with the help
of his forest friends, and makes short work of vanquishing an evil
prince. Performances are next weekend at Wy’east Performing
Arts Center on the campus in Odell. The double-cast show in-
cludes Kendra Wilkins, left, as Fiona, and Freya Chase as Shrek.
Show dates: April 24, at 7 p.m., April 25 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and
April 26 at 2 p.m. Jennifer Graves directs the show.
‘Love Gone Wild’ talk April 23
Thunder Island Brewing is concluding its three-part
Pacific Crest Trail Speaker series April 23 with “A Love
Gone Wild.” Seth Conde and Amy Buglione share their
story of getting engaged while through-hiking PCT in
2013. The talk starts at 6:30 p.m. Owner Dave Lipp said he
is working on a summer series, including a sailing talk
and another featuring films presented by Hood River au-

as Neo-Americana, World's Finest has bridged the gap be-
tween ska, Americana, dub and bluegrass.
Saturday, April 18, The June Bug Boys, 9:30 p.m. Gorge
String Band. “The June Bug Boys pick, stomp and shout
their way through the old timey songbook, with blue-
grass, hokum, fiddle tunes and country blues. Based in
Hood River, this all-star band brings a fresh traditional
sound to the Columbia River Gorge.” Best Western Plus

Mountain Film Fest April 24-26
Hood River Mountain Film Festival, aka “Best of the
Fest,” returns April 24-26 at Skylight Drafthouse Theater
and Pub, presented by Mr. Elive Productions. Tickets are
$20 for 12 adventure, environmental and adrenaline short
films, ranging from 3 to 26 minutes. The festival features
films from Vancouver International Mountain Film Fes-
tival and Banff Film Festival. Selections include “Caleb,”
voted top kayaking film of 2014, “Dream,” by Gorge film-
maker Skip Armstrong and filmed on the White Salmon
River, and the featured film, “Sufferfest 2.”
Aaron Meyer show May 1
On Friday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m., violinist Aaron Meyer
and guitarist Tim Ellis will perform with the Columbia
Gorge Sinfonietta at the Hood River Middle School. Join
Aaron and Tim as they perform their original music
from their CD, “Two Sides To This Story.” General admis-

Hop Trip at Volcanic April 18
Local band Hop Trip plays the Volcanic Bottle Shoppe
Saturday, April 18. ”Hoppy Hour” starts at 7 p.m. with
Bart Popenoe, Ed Dietrich, Mark Daly, and a few special
guests. The music is the perfect blend of folk with just a

‘Voice’ finalist Taylor John
Williams plays Gorge April 26
The Griffin House opens its musical season with a
house concert by Taylor John Williams on Sunday, April
26. Williams, an Oregon native, has become well known
around the world after competing on "The Voice" with a
fifth place finish.
His performance at The Griffin House is part of
William’s Northwest house concert tour. Limited seating
is available and tickets must be reserved through the
