A6 Hood River News, Wednesday, April 8, 2015 O bituaries Paid notices Steve Stancin Stephen (Steve) Dayton Stancin passed away unex- pectedly on March 27, 2015, in Clearlake, Calif., at the young age of 62. Steve was born in Hood River, Ore., to Steve and Clarice Stancin on March 7, 1953. He grew up in Parkdale on Trout Creek Ridge and at- Steve Stancin t e n d e d schools in the Hood River Valley. After school, Steve joined the Army in 1970 and was sta- tioned in Fort Carson, Colo., for the bulk of his enlistment. He served honorably for three years and returned to Hood River where he worked for Di- amond Fruit as a lift truck op- erator. In 1988, Steve moved to An- chorage, Alaska, where he met his sweetie of the last 25 years, Rosalie Tripp. They moved to the Clearlake area in 1994 and soon after, Steve went to work at the Robinson Rancheria Casino as a custo- dian. After 15 years, Steve left his job and enjoyed retire- ment until his death. Over the many years in the Clearlake area, Steve made many friends and greatly en- joyed the large family he joined with Rosalie. His con- stant good humor and smiling face, along with his Jeff Gor- don hat and tee-shirt, will al- ways be remembered as a Steve Stancin trademark. Steve was a good and kind soul that died too soon and will be sorely missed by all. Steve is survived by his sweetie and constant compan- ion, Rosalie Tripp; sister and brother-in-law, Ginny and Don Bland, of Portland, Ore.; Ora William Seal, 90, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015, at Hawks Ridge Assisted Living Community in Hood River, Ore. He was born May 23, 1924, in Syracuse, Kansas, to William and R u t h (Boughton) Seal. His sib- lings were Kenneth, Reva, Earl, Roy and Ubert, with Ora being the eldest. He grew up Ora Seal in Fruita, Colo., and graduated from Union High School. He joined the Army in August of 1942; he came home in 1943 to marry his high school sweetheart, Verda May Oxford. They had two sons, William L. Seal, born in 1946, and Kim A. Seal, born in 1953. Ora continued his educa- tion in radio and communica- tions throughout his career with the military. After his first enlistment from 1942- 1944, Ora tried his hand at radio repair, taxi driving and working as a ranch hand in Wisconsin to Oregon and back to Colorado before re-en- listing in the United States Air Force and serving his country proudly for the next 22 years. He served during World War II, Korea/China Burma, where he was shot down and walked back through enemy lines for 8 miles, having lost the hearing in one ear, as well as during the Cuban and Viet- nam conflicts. Decorations he had were the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, Good Conduct for both the Army and Air Force, Ameri- can Campaign Medals, Asiat- ic Pacific Campaign Medal with four battle stars, World War II Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal/ Germany, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award with four clus- ters, U.S. Air Force Non-Com- missioned Officers Senior Academy Ribbon, Air Force Commendation Medal, and even a China Memorial Medal given by the Governor of China thanking the men who fought for them. Ora retired from military service in 1966 and moved to Hood River with his family. He used his military commu- nications training and was employed by Sprint United Telephone Company until his retirement in 1986. Ora’s hobbies were making ceramics, square dancing, gardening and making macramé chairs. He was also a very good leather crafts- man. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ameri- can Legion. He is survived by his youngest brother, Ubert; his two sons, William Seal and his wife, Theresa, and Kim Seal and his wife, Sigi; grand- es, offenses and im- pounds: March 31 — E. The vehicle was towed because he had no operator’s license. March 31 — May Street, 1600 block — Stolen iPhone reported. April 1 — Eugene Street, 1700 block — Theft from a mail box reported. April 2 — 12th Street, 1900 block — Officer looked at se- curity footage of a theft from a local business. Upon viewing the video, the offi- cer observed a male take a pair of work boots valued at $223.99. April 4 — Wasco Avenue, 2700 block — A The Dalles resident was cited and re- leased for theft III. ■ Other: April 5 — 12th Street, 1800 block — Vehicle stopped for minor traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle was tested for driving under the influence of intoxicants but did not fail the tests. The driver had alcohol in his ve- hicle and was cited for minor in possession of alco- hol. April 5 — 12th Street, 1800 block — Vehicle stopped for minor traf fic violation. After contacting the driver and the passenger, the offi- cer noticed the adult male driver had been using mari- juana and the juvenile pas- senger was intoxicated. The juvenile was cited and re- leased to his mother after he provided a breath sample that he failed. April 5 — Hood River — Male arrested for disorderly conduct and criminal mis- chief. He was lodged at NOR - COR. ■ Driving under the in- fluence of intoxicants: April 4 — Cascade Locks — Male arrested for driving under the influence of alco- hol. April 5 — Hood River — Male arrested for driving under the influence of alco- hol. ■ Identity theft or bank/credit card fraud: April 2 — S.W. Ruckel Street, 0-100 block, Cascade Locks — Possible forgery re- ported. ■ Motor vehicle crashes, offenses and impounds: March 30 — Dee Highway — Two vehicle motor vehicle crash with injuries investi- gated. March 30 — Highway 281 near Highway 282 — Motor vehicle crash investigated. No injuries were reported. March 30 — Hood River — Odell male cited for violation driving while suspended and failure to carry proof of in- surance. Interment will be Moun- tain View Memorial Ceme- tery in Hood River with his parents. Graveside services will be scheduled at a later date. Ora was preceded in death by his wife, Verda; brothers Kenneth, Earl and Roy, and a sister, Reva, who passed away only three weeks ago. Rosy Niezgoda Rosemary “Rosy” Niezgo- da, of Hood River, Ore., passed peacefully on March 17, 2015, with her children and family by her side. Her ex- tended battle with cancer ended at Prov- idence Port- land Medical Center. She fought hard and com- plained little, as was her character. Rosy was Rosy born Feb. 1, Niezgoda 1949, in Everett and Elaine Landreth and grew up in the Gorge with her siblings, Betty, Ed and Joyce. Later, she married and raised her three children: Tona Landreth, Ben Niezgoda and Shey Niezgoda, in Hood River. Serving the Hood River Valley Since1921 Helen Bohn passed away peacefully April 4, 2015, at Brookside Manor, Hood River Ore. Helen M. Smyth Rosen- berg Bohn was born Oct. 4, 1911, in Dazey, N.D. She lived on a Montana Highline homestead until the 1920s when she and her family moved to Southern Cal- ifornia. She met Helen Bohn her husband, Floyd Rosenberg, at OSAC (OSU). She earned her degree in nutrition in 1933. After in- terning in several Portland hospitals she and Floyd mar- ried and moved to Pasadena, Calif., where she was a home- maker, mother and volunteer. When Floyd retired from the Los Angeles County Sher- iff ’s Office in the mid-1960s, they moved to Camp Sher- man, Ore., and then to Ana- cortes, Wash., to be closer to their love of boating and fish- ing. Helen moved to Hood River, Ore., on her 95th birth- day to be nearer her son. Helen was preceded in death by her husbands, Floyd Rosenberg and Stanley Bohn, brother Ronald Smyth and g randdaughter Dianne Agnew. Helen is survived by daugh- ter Janice (Bob) Agnew and son Don (Sandy) Rosenberg, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
