www.hoodrivernews.com Hood River News, Wednesday, April 8, 2015 A3 ENTERTAINMENT U pdate ‘Magnificent Seven’ April 19 The Friends of the Library will be showing the classic Western movie “The Magnificent Seven” on Sunday, April 19, at 2 p.m. at the Hood River Library. “The Magnificent Seven” is an American western film directed by John Sturges and starring Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach and Steve McQueen. The picture is an Old West- style remake of Akira Kurosawa’s Japanese-language film “Seven Samurai.” The film the “Magnificent Seven” is the inspiration for the characters’ journey North in the 2015 Hood River County Reads selection, “Into the Beautiful North” by Luis Alberto Urrea. The program is free and open to the public. This pro- gram is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Cider Fest returns April 11 On Saturday, April 11, 19 local and regional craft cideries will gather in Hood River for the second annual Hood River Hard-Pressed Cider Fest, where there will be more than 38 ciders on tap. Eight of the cideries are located in the Hood River area – an indication of how the Columbia Gorge region is at the epicenter of the Pacific Northwest’s booming cider scene. Event located at 3315 Stadelman Drive, Hood River, noon-6 p.m. Entry tickets $5 (ages 14 and under are free); branded cider glass and 4 drink tokens: $5. Tony Smiley helps Pheasant Valley celebrate On Saturday, April 11, Pheasant Valley Winery will be celebrating 11 years of great wine. Photos by Jim Drake S OUNDS A T S PRINGHOUSE Last week singer-songwriter Ashliegh Flynn and fiddle player Katherine Claire played two sets of acoustic music featuring original and traditional folk and bluegrass tunes at the Tuesday night music series at Springhouse Cellar. Coming up on April 14, it’s music duo Tim Snider and Brazilian artist Caio Andreatta. The pair just released a new album that was influenced by trips to Brazil and Spain, where they experienced Flamenco, Salsa and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Science Pub talks come to The Dalles and Hood River The Center for Sustainable Materials Chemistry and OSU Open Campus host the popular “science pub” series arriving soon in the Colum- bia River Gorge.
