ENTERTAINMENT U pdate HRVHS benefit show set for Jan. 31 Miguel Vazquez “On the Beat,” the bene- fit variety show, original- ly scheduled early this month, is on for 7 p.m., Jan. 31 at Hood River Val- ley High school’s Bowe Theater. Miguel Vasquez is orga- nizing the show for his Extended Application pro- ject. He will be among the perfomers, which include current students and alumni. Proceeds will benefit HRVHS theater program. Club notes for this week: ■ Amber and the Pale Ales play Thursday at Double Mountain Brewery and Taproom 8-10 p.m. ■ Ben Bon- ham performs Thursday at The Pines. Bon- ham’s guitar playing is root- ed in the music of pre-radio America when all music was live and styles weren’t pigeon- holed. Like his favorite musi- cians from the 1920s, Ben’s range comfort- ably spans gen- res-on any given Ben Bonham night you might catch him play- ing country blues, ragtime, vintage swing, Delta blues, folk, jazz, old-time country, and Hawaiian. Hear him from 6-9 p.m. at The Pines, 202 Cascade Av- enue. ■ Coming Feb. 6 to The Pines, Ryan Kolberg and Anderson Gould, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Kolberg, a well- known bassist, branches out with an impressive di- versity on guitar and vocals. ■ River City Saloon brings Hillstomp (Jan. 30) and Turkuaz (Feb. 1-2) in 10 p.m. 21-and-over shows. ■ The band Shed Shakers returns Saturday to Double Mountain Brewery and Taproom for a 9 p.m. 21-and-over show. ■ Left Coast Country with Kory Quinn comes to Cebu Lounge (Best Western Inn) Jan. 30 and 31 for shows at 9:30 p.m. (21-and-over).
