The last time I saw Fruition (pictured left),
they were Peter Rowan’s backup band for
the show in the Gorge Room at the Hood
River Inn. I remember it well, and not just be-
cause of the great music. I hiked through a
foot of snow to get to the show — I guess
that was back when we were having a real
winter.
The roads should be clear on Friday, Jan. 23,
when the band pulls into the River City Sa-
loon, and I’ll get to hear Mimi Naja’s man-
dolin one more time.

Kay Floria at White Buffalo
Kay Floria will be the featured musician at the White
Buffalo on Thursday, Jan. 22, from 6-8 p.m. Kay, an excel-
lent keyboardist and vocalist, performs blues, ballads
and jazzy tunes reminiscent of 40s and 50s female blues
artists. Januik Winery from Woodinville, Wash., will be
pouring some favorite reds and whites for the compli-

‘Cowspiracy’ kicks off
Tofurky film fest Jan. 22
The Tofurky company kicks off its Winter Veg Film
Fest with the award winning movie “Cowspiracy, The
Sustainability Secret,” which will be shown at the Sky-
light Theater in Hood River at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan.
22. The movie is a fundraiser for the Columbia Gorge
Ecology Institute and connects the dots between our di-
etary choices and global warming. The cost is $5 and in-
cludes a free piece of vegan pizza and entry into a raffle

Fields of May play Jan. 24 in CL
Stevenson-based band Fields of May will play at Thun-
der Island Brewing in Cascade Locks on Saturday, Jan.
24, from 6 to 9 p.m. Band members include Dennis Mor-
gan, lead guitar and vocals, Julie Mayfield on guitar and
vocals and Jon Bennett on percussion. Expect old timey
and western, country blues and a bit of jazz. Thunder Is-
