Attorney H. H. Riddell, wife and son Morse of Portland, who have been with the Mazamas at Mt. Hood, visited his sister, Mrs. E. E. Lape and family this week. Master Morse, aped 9 years, made the record of beinp the youngest person to pain the top of the mountain. The only threshinp machine in Hood River Valley began its yearly run Monday morning. It is an object of interest especially to small boys in this fruit district. Mr. Eby of Seattle arrived in Pine Grove last Thursday to take charpe of his son James, who had been broupht to E. E. Lape's from the Mazama camp at Mt, Hood where the boy was taken seriously ill with appendicitis. The Ladies' Aid will meet at the home of Mrs. Stanton Allen next Friday afternoon. Mr. Connaway has returned from a business trip to Portland. Dane Kemp is ill with la grippe. James English has leased his property to some Japanese for five years. We understand he is to give possession in a week and move his family to Eastern Ore gon. John, Olga and Edna Plog, Beatrice English and friends from town, chaperoned by Mrs. Plog, are spending a couple of weeks at Lost Lake. Mrs. Mae Schiller left for Sea view, Saturday to spend a few days with friends. While she is away Miss Elenor Haskings will take her place on the switch board. Dane Kemp is soon to build a fine cottage on his property across from W. P. Kemp. H. S. Lewis of Portland is here visiting his son, Ralph, and his sister, Mrs. A. L. Shelley. He expects to return the last of the week. Sunday school at 10:30 and preaching services by Rev. Troy Shelley at 11 a. m. C. E. at 7:45 p. m., Mrs. Mable Kemp, leader, at the Union church. Mrs. LeRoy Armstrong, who baa been to Salt Lake and OKden on a visit, returned home the latter part of the week. PARKDALE NEWS Mrs. O'Reilly and friend of Portland, came up from Hood River Thursday by auto as far as Mrs. Davies' homestead, walk ing the remainder of the dis tance to her son's homestead. Ed Dresser, who has been clerking at Parkdale since the 4th of July, returned home this week. Mr. Rawson made a business trip to Hood River the first of last week, returning Friday. Mrs. Gray and son are guests of Mrs. Gander this week. Mr. Rhodeniser is becoming an expert in his store. He has a pood trade. A few of the homesteaders under the new law expect to prove up soon. The Glacier Ditch company had a picnic Saturday at Tillie Jane. Mr. and Mrs. Monroe have been campinp at Oloud Cap Inn the past week.
